<p>I work for one of the best bosses ever.&nbsp; He's cool, he's level headed, he compliments me when I do a good job, and he gives me shit when I deserve it, and makes sure that I get the hook up when I ask for it.</p><p>Also key is that he defends me when I fuck up.</p><p>His birthday is coming up, and I wonder - is it too much of an ass-kiss move to get him a birthday present out of respect?</p><p>Nothing huge, but a polo shirt of his favorite NFL team... or something.</p>

I always think it's nicer to get a card in the mail), and write something nice and sincere in it. i think getting something for your boss, is a nice idea. especially if he has been very supportive. i have to go out and buy my boss a gift today. he was very supportive and helpful during my pregnancy and maternity leave. Plus tuesday is his 30th anniversary with the company, so it won't look like i'm trying to kiss ass too much.<br />

<p>I think an nfl polo shirt is a guy enough gift, since it's sports
related.&nbsp; Otherwise, the alcohol or cigar gifts (although you may
want to avoid cigars unless you know he smokes) are good alternatives.</p><p>Personally,
I'd wait the extra month, give him something around holiday time and
thank him for everything he's done for you this year.<br />

<p>Usually, I prefer to give my boss a gift which is totally
re-giftable.&nbsp; For example, sometimes, I get a boss a nice bottle
of liquor.&nbsp; This gift is great, because either he drinks it, or he
can use it as a quick gift for that brother-in-law, to help smooth over
the fact that he slept with his wife.&nbsp; </p><p>&nbsp;Ties and
clothing, eh, too personal. Sports stuff, eh, sports stuff is sorta
dumb, I mean, you're either getting him a mug, or some plaque with a
trading card encased in plexiglass and mounted on a piece of MDF, or a
book.&nbsp; I give that stuff to children, not bosses.&nbsp; Fancy
baskets, eh, it's like straight out of A Christmas Story, besides,
clients give businesses baskets, not employees to bosses.&nbsp; </p><p>&nbsp;I
like to get bosses excutive gifts, gifts which sort of add to the
mystique of the business environment, it's either that or liquor.&nbsp;
Side gifts such as tins of popcorn are good for the office.&nbsp; <br />
