From DCRTV:

11/8 - So why was "The Don And Mike Show" in "best of" mode Monday on WJFK-FM? Don Geronimo revealed on the air Tuesday that he was having "serious" negotiations with someone. Or was it "Sirius" negotiations? He wouldn't spell it out.

I wonder is Death Metal Moe will enjoy this news?

I'd be thinking about jumping ship of I was in his shoes, too.
WJFK and talk radio on terrestrial radio in general is a rotting
corpse. He can't go to XM for obvious reasons and Howard has two
channels to program. I'm sure Howard's parents are very
enteraining people, but I doubt they can fill 24 hours. Who else
do you want.. Mancow or whatever his name is?

I hope they have a great time over with Stern. Are you kidding? This is great. I'm so happy Hoo Hoo is moving off FM because I'll never ever hear from him again. If Don and MIke follow, wonderful.

I mean honestly, it may get "heater" in the next few months between XM and Sirius to draw talk fans one way or another, but do you think it's ever gonna get to the point where one or the other is going out of busniess due to competition? Of course not.

So I'll still get my 202 and they will be squaking away over at Sirius out of my earshot.

Godbless Don and Mike. May I never even have the chance of hearing you again.

I'm sure both XM and Sirius have talked w/ D&M over the years, like they have with most everyone that's been around long enough to garner respect in the business. It's not just a "Howard" camp or an "O&A" camp with satellite - they are looking for professionals. My guess is that if a meeting took place, it is because of the shit-canning of WJFK for "Free-FM" - either they are looking to get off the sinking ship once and for all, OR it's another ploy with managment to get treated better; maybe get some more affiliates, etc. In any event, they are there for a long while - their contracts don't expire for at least a couple of years.

Anyway - wasn't there an Opie and Anthony rumor about them meeting with an "enemy" for lunch or something? When was that suppose to take place?
And who do they actually hate more - O&A or Tim Sabian?

I'd rather have hope in my soul than soap in my hole...

I SIRIUSLY (harhar) hope they go. The lousiest show I've ever heard, and I tried very hard to give them a chance. With 60 year old Howie, Bubba the LoveSponge and Don and Mike Sirius can solidify its place as the worst lineup ever.

Nothing Honestly. It has nothing to do with the awful show he puts on. He is a jerk from what I used to listen to back on WNEW. I haven't listened to Don and Mike after after his wife died, but I'm sure it's humbled the man a bit. Enough time has passed, I don't think that he shouldn't be attacked or made fun of, I just feel bad for his family.

O&A, R&F and Stern all had fun at sat at different times.

In any event, if this does happen and they go to XM, there's proof that there is a God and He likes to fuck with Moe. I still think it's a current employment ploy, but as someone else said, this kind of radio is dying on terestrial. Clear Channel has the right idea and lets their talkers do both, but with Stern gone, other people will become lightning rods, and it may be just a matter of time before anyone with any sort of edge HAS to go to sat-rad.

One name not on anyone's radar but one that also makes sense could be former WJFK general manager Alan Leinwand. He's was the one who convinced R&F to come to DC after WNEW imploded, and even though was ultimately steamrolled/responsible for Bill O'Reilly, he seemed like a fan/friend of this kind of radio. He would have also been the one at WJFK when O&A were there. He left WJFK about a year ago to work at K Rock in NYC, and while they are now going to a talk format, without Stern there he may be one looking for a new start.

Business-wise, it would be a smart move to try and get D&M to join XM. Bringing their audience with them would really help if they want to beat out Sirius' Stern-driven talk format.

I know I'll get railed on for this, but I always liked Don & Mike when they were on in NYC. I would rather listen to 3 hours of D&M (or a portion of) instead of listening to one of the 72 re-airings of the Opie and Anthony show. They've got like what, 4 Golden Tickets left? Hand those damn things out so I can get some more variety on the XM.

Apart from that, if you're going to replay - replay Ron & Fez at a decent fucking hour and on a more frequent basis so I can listen to them more easy.

Don & Mike coming to XM would be perfect for me, then I'd have my two favorite radio shows and it'd be a much better investment. I could care less about O&A but I have come to tolerate them, however as others mentioned the excessive replays get annoying especially when R&F gets such a shafted replay at midnight.

That kind of show line up could really create a dynamic on XM that'd be hard for Sirius to match. And now that I have XM, there's really no chance I'd ever get Sirius anyways.

quote:Business-wise,
it would be a smart move to try and get D&M to join XM. Bringing
their audience with them would really help if they want to beat out
Sirius' Stern-driven talk format.

Begin your response here...

Of
course it makes business sense. XM has about 5million
subscribers, O&A claim to have half a million listeners which is
not only highly unlikely but impossible for anyone to know since XM
doesn't have any way to count what subscribers listen to.

Don
and Mike used to have about 6 million listeners, with loss of some
affiliates they're probably around 4.5million across the
country....when O&A joined XM they had 0 listeners and I've no idea
how many Ron and Fez had but I'd guess it was about 100,000 with them
only being on in night time DC...anyone with 4.5million joining XM are
sure to bring a good portion of their listeners with them....if 10% of
don and mike listeners signed up for XM and 202 when D&M jumped
then they'd be doing a hell of a lot better than most shows.

Don
was critical of the baltimore guy for promoting XM while working for an
FM station, don like XM and had an XM radio in his cars but his mocking
of the DJ's who were going to XM was more about their loyalty to their
current job than XM itself. I'm sure Don would jump at the chance
to move to XM and New York if he settled his differences with
Opie....his difference being that he thought Opie was very
unprofessional and mocked don and mike when they worked for the same
stations instead of promoting them, while don and mike spent a lot of
time promoting O&A when they initially came to DC....

I dont
like O&A, I discovered ron and fez through don and mike and still
listen to both shows and I'd love it if don and mike could move to XM
and get back to their old ways when the show was at it's best doing
things that they just can't do on FM anymore....

well from what I've read in the past O&A could count their ratings
when they were on premium as people had to pay to listen to
them....they got a mear 20,000 people, huge numbers bellow their
expected sales....so they got dropped from the premium channel and are
now on the basic package which can only count total subscribers and not
individual channels....most recently opie claimed to have 600,000
listeners to the halloween show....that would be over 10% of the entire
XM subscribers listening to that show...a show that was on late night
abnd competing with prime time TV. theres absolutly no way they
realistically got 600,000 listeners to that show...I'd be hesitant to
say their were 600,000 people listening to XM at that time at all never
mind just the O&A show...
The logic that O&A didnt get that many listeners is pure guess. Don't get me wrong, I am not even arguing the point, but the logic is flawed. They can count the total number of people who listened to the show over a 24 hour period (all the replays) which has nothing to do with Prime Time, etc... They absolutely kjnow how many subs listen to the show. They can track the listeners from the internet (which is common all day from people listening at work), to the requests for the channels on the satelite.

Hey I believe a lot of the stuff Opie says is bullshit. Like when he claimed to have a million listeners. But High Voltage suceeded in the Premium package. Opie claims they doubled XM's expectations for subscribers to the High Voltage channel (but then again, its Opie). If you want to see when a channel fails on premium then look at the Playboy channel (you can't, it got kicked off the air). It stayed on premium for years and then was removed by XM recently since they wanted more bandwith.
O&A did complain for months that they didn't want to be on premium channel. But I doubt they have 1 million listneers.

Rumors: D&M To Sirius - 11/18 - Don't blame DCRTV if it's wrong. We just report what we hear. The Get Sirius Info blog "now feels confident in reporting that Don and Mike will be join Sirius in the spring. No official word yet, so please still view this as a 'reliable rumor'... We are told by sources and on air comments made, that Don and Mike signed a three-and-a-half year deal with Sirius. Estimated to be valued at over $5 million in cash and stock. Sirius chief Mel Karmazin is a fan of the show, and gave them a big break back in his Infinity days. Don and Mike will join Sirius in late spring. Don and Mike will announce the details of this deal on the air in early December 2005. There is (sic) some other sources in DC talking about some changes to WJFK-FM the current flagship of Don and Mike. It is also likely that Don and Mike will join the Sirius Stars 103 line-up." DCRTV hears that if Don and Mike do a deal with NYC's Sirius, they'll still be based in DC and still be heard afternoons on WJFK-FM.
