I was listening to the John DeBella Show and they did a bit "In a Perfect World"..it sounded REMARKABLY similar to "Earth 2".....

For example, echoey voice that says "In a Perfect World" In a perfect world Mick Jagger would let the homeless sleep on his lips...In a perfect world, the today show host Matt Lauer would come out of the closet.

Sounds very similar to Earth 2...just not funny.

Lets just say I have a friend who was asked to do a theme song for that bit.

my "friend" refused to do the song because it had R&F overtones.

Thats just sleazy. It would be funny to hear DeBella called out on the air for stealing the bit..although he might not even know it was stolen?

When Ron steals a bit from George Carlin...he credits George in the
next sentence. That's fair, just like crediting a source in a research
paper in school. If DeBella wants to steal bits some R&F callers
should bombard him with calls and call him oput on it until he FULLY
credits R&F A N D And,And And Gets permission
from R&F to replay recorded examples of the original to show
DeBella's audience that he stole from the best.It should be Giant Brian
who introduces the bits and spends an entire half hour telling R&F
stories,their history,Brian's contributions,and a history up to the
heart attack. Fair play ,DeBella.OR,would you rather I tell Captain
Janks about your shennanigans?
and that is a shame too. If Dabella ripped off Ron and Fez, that just shows you how bad commercial radio is. Jon Dabella used to be the best DJ on WMMR in Philadelphia.
Oh Well. That is why I listen to XM 100% of the time now. Terrestrial Radio is just a borefest. But Dabella used to be one of the best. Too Bad for him.

Nope..not Giant Brian. I just thought it sounded very similar. You can here it for yourself on the WMGK.COM podcast of the Debella show. And since I got my XM radio, I listen to very little Philly radio...it just sucks...with the exception of Kid Chris on WYSP..

Of course Howard invented it,but that doesn't give DeBella the right to
rip it off from R&F.It just doesn't make sense.Howard's version was
called "In the BiZZaRo world(term from superman)".

What exactly is the conan rip off? Is it more the echo idea along
with the futuristic soundtrack? The actual content and idea
behind them are totally different IMO. I actually find the earth 2 bit
alot funnier/wittier. I try mentally to guess where they
are going with the earth 2 version before it gets out.

After music, comedy may be the most incestuous medium I ever been exposed to.

Who thought up many of these great bits originally, and mean the great bits of any TV, radio, movie? More often then not, it's not the host or star of the show, it was someone in the back who was throwing out ideas, and one stuck.

If we look at music; musicians here will note the 12 bar I-IV-V blues template has been used in what must be thousands of songs. Probably more. Chuck Berry? 90% of his stuff is I-IV-V 12 bar blues, pick a different key, to make it sound a bit different, syncopate it, shuffle the beat, tack on new lyrics and you have thousands of songs out there, all using the same three fucking chords. So...

He said he was angry and depressed for awhile, but eventually was able to create his own niche and do his own thing. He's very talented, and honest to a point of coming across as being rude or blunt, so I have no reason to doubt him.

Although no one likes to be ripped off, take solice in the fact that SNL stinks on ice and has done so for years. So no one on that show is getting any good recognition based on the quality of the content in the show.

Ashley Simpson was the most talked about thing on that show in the past............at least 5 years.

Sad..............Operaman...............BUH BYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Well, that's always the fear - you pull off something really unique and funny and someone rips it off, makes it less funny, but somehow has the means to get it out there. It's ruined the chances of you ever able to do it, because someone has already peed all over it.

I know it is kewl to bash Stern for "inventing it all," but the truth is ABC did out and out steal "Am I Hot?" show, right down to the laser pointer and Jackie Martling as a cackling judge - thanks to a former E Producer, Scott Depace. If Howard had wanted to shop that around himself, there's no way anyone would want it, because it's already been done and out there, and stunk.

And with SNL - don't kid yourself - SNL is still a powerhouse, and the pressure to perform and be funny (and the funniest) is intense.

This last weekend I stayed at the communal loft of my former university in midtown manhattan, and the student intern there for the semester got an unpaid internship with SNL. I was able to get stand-by tickets for the 8pm dress rehearsal this last Saturday, and it was nuts - people love this show so much still, even when it stinks. Everyone in line was going on and on about it. It's an institution. Some woman and her family camped out overnight to get the stand-by for the 11pm live show.

Even though it was the 8pm dress rehearsal, we still still didn't get in. They let in about 30 people from the stand-by line, and I was about 10 behind them (there was another 50 behind me). Which was cool - it meant I had the rest of the night free. If I had bothered waiting for the 11pm show, I might have been pissed.
I'd rather have hope in my soul than soap in my hole...
