Not just good music in a movie but a song that comes on that so perfectly fits the moment ....

excellent all around soundtrack but love when "Ooh La La" by the Faces comes on at the end

another excellent soundtrack; highpoint for me is "Mad Love" by Michael Andrews (again at the end)

These are obvious examples; I'm sure Mojo can come up with more obscure ones ...

Believe it or not, the soundtrack for The Devil's Rejects is pretty damn solid. Especially all of the songs on their by Terry Reid.

I agree 100% with Rushmore and Donnie Darko.

I also liked this one:

I agree completely with "Ooh La La". That's one of my favorite uses of music in a movie. Two that don't seem like they'll work but do are "Sister Christian" and "Jesse's Girl" during the botched drug deal in "Boogie Nights".

I like "Black Betty" and "Can't you See" in Blow.

I agree about the boogie nights songs.

Another one is "Save Me" at the end of Magnolia. I actually heard R&F play that song at the end of their "hero bit"

Some of my favorite movie soundtracks

Garden State has a great soundtrack with music from The Shins, Simon and Garfunkel and Nick Drake to name a few.

Reservoir Dogs soundtrack has lots of great music as do most of Tarantino's soundtracks.
Most notably "Little Green Bag" by George Baker, "Stuck In The Middle" by Stealer's Wheel, Joe Tex's
"I Gotcha", Blue Swede's "Hooked on a Feeling" and Harry Nilson's "Coconut" to name a few.

Pulp Fiction has so much great music, my favorite from the soundtrack is Al Green's "Let's Stay Together" and Ricky Nelson's haunting "Lonesome Town", and Misirlou by Dick Dale and His Del-Tones.

Goodfellas as was mentioned earlier is also one of my favorites as well as Kill Bill vol 1 and 2 soundtracks.

Also Rushmore is one of my favorites. I only wish they would have added the Rolling Stone's "I am waiting" (which is in the movie) to the soundtrack. I added it to the soundtrack on my ipod though it would have been great if it were on it already.

Reefy's website...Check out The Ron and Fez Show Logs...UPDATED!!!!!Right now you could care less about me... but soon enough you will care, by the time I'm done

There is a song on the REQUIEM FOR A DREAM soundtrack that I will forever associate with the closing minutes of that movie. I think the piece was called "Lux Aeterna". It pops up in commercials every once in a while. It was also the bed for one of the LORD OF THE RINGS trailers....but whenever I hear it, all I can think of is Requiem.

It's just such a majestic piece of music.

After that, I'd have to say my second favorite has gotta be "Jungle Love" by The Time. OhWeeOhWeeOh. Bwaa ha!

The term soundtrack most commonly refers to the music used in a movie (or television show), and/or to an album sold containing that music. Sometimes, the music has been recorded just for the film or album (e.g. Saturday Night Fever). Often, but not always, and depending on the type of movie, the soundtrack album will contain portions of the score, non-diegetic music composed for thematic effect as the movie's plot occurs. I'm just pointing out that we're discussing the use of popular music in film in this thread, not scores. It's a completely different type of ambience, almost an art unto itself if done right. Maybe a famous director will one day have a flash of genius and put one of YOUR awful songs into their film as part of its soundtrack! REACH for that dream, sparkles!

quote: Tiny Dancer from Almost Famous
Actually, I think the better soundtrack moment from that movie was the use of a better Elton John song while the band is at the NY restaurant where Williams told the band they would be on the cover of Rolling Stone. Can't remember the restaurant right now, but I believe it was a rib joint - Kansas City Ribs or something.

Anyway, during this scene, Russell is with his wife, and Penny shows up. Russell is trying to ignore Penny, and, after his wife notices Penny, he sends Dick over to get rid of her. As Dick is doing so, he grabs Penny's arm, and both Russell and William are alarmed and stand up. As they do so, Mona Lisa and Mad Hatter starts playing, and the two look at each other, both in love with Penny, and concerned about her, but both know that only William can go after her. So Russell sits down, and William chases after Penny as the song keeps going.

I absolutely love that moment in the movie. Just a great look between Billy Crudup and Patrick Fugit and a really great song from Elton John.
