totally... in his book he mentions alice cooper, kiss, and bowie along with iron maiden and i think rush (but im not sure about rush, i havent read it in like a year)as his major influences. but the book is a great read its called "the long hard road out of hell" if any one is interested

And yet, with all of Manson's success later in life, he will have to live in shame that Ron Bennington never did let him and The Spooky Kids on the air.
I'd rather have hope in my soul than soap in my hole...

dont get me wrong - the guy is brilliant when it comes to self promotion and media. The band has some really cool shit as well. IM just saying he is not as original as some of the kids think he is.
And thats cool that they think he's original - most of his fans are young enough to have never seen anything like it before - therefore he is NEW to them.

If anyone has seen Gwars tour in the last few months, they do a great bit where they bring this huge manson figure out on stage and rape him / kill him blah blah blah all that gwar shit.

pretty funny. if you "get" gwar

Silly story -

When I was about 15 or 16 I had a punk band called creeping corpse and we would play all over DC with a death metal / speed metal band called Deceased ( who are pretty well known these days in the speed metal scene) WE sounded like a cross between S.O.D. and Suicidal Tendencies. One night we decided to sneak into this gated graveyard and take some pics for our "demo tape" - so we had chains & spikes, shovels and picks, we wore wigs and make up and looked goofier than these guys (below)

Security and police busted us. there we were.... 3 northern va dorks dressed up like evil zombies with shovels breaking into a cemetary. So gay. I found this band on myspace and it brought back some memories. ahhh the glory daze!

I think it was Gene Simmons who sued King Diamond for infringement, saying the makeup was a rip-off of Gene.

Go figure.

In his act, Mitch hedberg said he was in a Death Metal band, whether just a joke setup or not, sounds plausible.

Is Speed Metal still a genre?
