Billy just likes getting pissed and worked up about things. I
think the thing that pissed him off the most was that he said addiction
is not a disease and Billy is too weak minded too accept that so he
decided to call up and bore everyone for 20 minutes.

The implication that Billy might be responsible for some of the reasons that his life has gone badly simply horrifies him. If alcoholism is a disease, then he feels he has no free will and nothing can be pinned on him.

Regards, Virginia

quote: What did that guy say yesterday that scared Staples so much? He is really agitated.
Well, this is dimestore pyschology, but I think Billy is threatened by anyone who truly has cleaned up, especially without the program, because it suggest that he has failed in his struggles with recovery, and is a failure. Look at the way that he challenged the one caller who said he was an alcoholic who cleaned up on his own. The first thing was to cast doubt on whether the caller was an alcoholic in the first place. I've heard him do this before, essentially to suggest that anyone who can get better without the program is not an alcoholic, which he clearly is.

Plus, he was trying to have it both ways by first trying to agree with Ron that there are a number of ways that addicts can get better, but that the program was the "correct" way.

His definition of a "higher power" is also fairly loose. Most people interpret a "higher power" to be a deity/creator of us all. Yet, for him, it could be such a god, or it could be a program or essentially any belief or program that gets a person through the rehabilitation.

Billy's like a political zealot who believes that only people with the same political beliefs can be "True Americans." In this case, Billy appears to argue that you're not a true alcoholic unless you've gone through the same path, and had the same failures that Billy had.

Again, this is just dimestore pyschology from someone who had three pyschology classes in high school and college, so I could be off base, but this is how Billy appears to me.

could it be as simple as Billy is envious that this guy got sober and is also making a great sum of money? i don't know

i heard James Frey speak and he repeatedly said he does not want to give anyone any advice. true some of it was for legal reasons but he realized his way isn't the only way to sobriety. to me James Frey is a guy that can focus. He focused on being a drunk and an addict (and did it well) and then he focused on being sober. Then he focused on writing a book...

Well I cleaned up with no program except the 'Stop Fucking Drinking, Asshole!' approach.

Quitting booze was tough, dropping 150 pounds while doing it without surgery is a bit more difficult, but I did both. No meetings, no higher power, I went from about a liter of Absolut a day to zero, nada one morning in March 2001 I woke up and was sick and tired of being drunk and fat.

During the time, which includes up to now, I became about the moodiest, angriest motherfucker I ever met, stunning even myself with how big of an asshole I could be. Anger issues? Issues? Sure, but fuck em. One can decide not to be angry, not to be pissed off by things around them, and believe me, we often choose, if not seek out, situations to get pissed off in. Hence the human drama.

=

There are true addicts, and I don;t speak for Billy, but I know him a bit, and he hasnt had an easy time w/ booze, and if he needs whatever he needs to stop, I'm there to support him. He believes in a God I don't, big deal. If AA works for him, awesome.

Somewhere is one of the bazillion before/after pics I've assembled going from 360 to 210. But some numbers for encouragement for those seeking to quit booze/lose weight. My tux guy has all my measurements from whenever I got a tux. He didn't recognize me when I stopped in last week for a penguin suit, and had the numbers. Since 2001 I went from:

Jacket: 64 Long to 48 Long

Pants: 56 to 38 waist

Neck: 22 to 17 inches

Sober sucks and is boring. Chronic drunk sucks worse.

Dieting sucks and is boring. Being so fat one sweats all day and cant walk for more then 20 mins because of the back pain sucks worse.

Soap Box Mode = OFF

I have 5 days clean as of today and I am having a terrible time keeping myself out of “trouble.” It is interesting to me to hear all of the opinions expressed here, but I can’t help thinking that different people experience things differently and require different disciplines to find what they need to “get better.” The first time I got clean was over 20 years ago, a simpler time, when I found the notion of “God” more palpable. Since September 11th 2001, I find the notion of “God” to be an almost insulting concept. So now that I find myself in need of assistance I don’t know where to turn. I go to meetings because I can be honest about myself out loud, in front of a large group of people and I find that to be therapeutic, especially since I have alienated a lot of my friends because of my intolerable behavior whilst “under the influence.” But in all honesty I get more relief from reading “Healing Back Pain” by Dr. John Sarno than I do from the AA “Big Book” and the NA book. I enjoyed James Frey because I find brave people to be inspirational, and I am in dire need of inspiring. His way may not be my way, but I will not judge his success or anyone else’s, because I wish him well, the same as I wish all people, at least when I'm sober...

Try replacing "these days" for "anymore" and it will make a little better sense as an uncommon usage. Usages change over time.

God Bless R&F & Perrynoid for not trashing Yoko for her joyous relationship w/ John Lennon. So few peeps seem to be aware of the FACT that Yoko Ono was a credible & successful artist in the FLUXUS MOVEMENT prior to her introduction to John.

Fluxus artists and art

The word "fluxus", means "a flow", an unstoppable movement towards a commitment that is more ethical than aestetic in nature.Fluxus, which developed mainly in North America and Europe, following the influence of Cage, did not aim at being avant-garde in the sense of creating a new language, but rather at making a different use of established channels of art, and at the liberation of art from any specific language. It therefore focused on interdisciplinarity and on the use of means to a new concept of art, as "total art".The artistic experience, be it work or event,is the opportunity to create a presence and a sign of energy within reality. Thus "Fluxus" has functioned as a moving front of people, rather than as a group of specialists, following not so much a tactic of experimentation in new languages as a strategy of social contact, with the aim of creating a series of chain-reactions, or magnetic waves, above and below art.The concept of "Fluxus" was first put forward in America in 1962 by George Maciunas. The first exhibition, the "Fluxus International Festspiele", was held at Wiesbaden in September 1962.
He was certainly a spotter of good musicians.

Yes is one of my fave groups, and yep, one of the most loathed, especially by Fez. Anyway, Yes plucked up drummer Alan White after his involvement with Lennon/Ono...

From some websearch on Alan White...

It was in 1969 that he got his highest exposure, however, as a member of John Lennon's Plastic Ono Band. Lennon first pressed White into service for the Toronto Rock 'n Roll Revival show that became the Live Peace In Toronto album, although at the time no LP was intended — by sheer luck, the existence of a bootleg release resulted in an official Apple Records LP that sold millions of copies, and had White's name placed on an equal footing in the band credits with Lennon and Eric Clapton. He also played on the single "Instant Karma" and on the Imagine album, which were some of the hottest records of the era.

Tony Levin of King Crimson/Peter Gabriel also is credited on Double Fantasy

For those who may want to hear it themselves later...it's in super secret spoiler mode I love so much!

Fez agreed to see Mikey D. because, after his heart attack, he wanted some sort of resolution to ease the stress in his life. Leading up to Mikey coming in, however, Fez complained of his chest hurting, and even his hand tingling. When Mikey came in during the second segment and began his apology, Fezzie couldn't stand it and left the studio. It was actually a little scary sounding.

Ron kept Mikey in the studio, and they talked it through. They had Mikey practice his apology on Bill the Intern, on Big A and Soundboard Fezzie. His stalling didn't bring Fez back, though, so they went to a break to see if they could get Fez back in.

The next segment Fez came in (Mikey was in Master Po's office) and they talked about the pain in his chest, and how he just couldnt' do it. It should be noted that with all the tenseness, Ron kept the show funny, and some ball busting continued when Fez came back in. When Ron asked him if they should let Mikey D. come back in, or should they just let him go - "forever" - Fez agreed to give it one more chance.

This time Fez had some pointed questions, and Mikey answered them, and tried his best to be very contrite. A couple of people called to defend Mikey D., including his wife, who said some very nice things about how Mikey has changed the last 9 months.

When all was said and done, Fez decided he needed to do this for his health, and that he would accept Mike's apology, however not to expect things to bounce back to where they were before, and to respect his space, however he seemed willing to work on their friendship.

In other news - I am thrilled they brought back "Tha's the end of my show DONK!" to the end of the show!!

Fez dipped out immediately, but came back after a break. Apparently his nitro pills helped calm him down, then him and Mikey D played the back-and-forth game with some ass-kissing thrown around.

Basically Fez still wants some time to "get healthy" as he put it, and for the time being that doesn't involve Mikey D. But it's still the most progress they've made so far.

I'd rather have hope in my soul than soap in my hole... Thanks curtoid. I think that's great news.
Mikey d's wife did well to smooth things over and keep Fez's heart from a nitro detonation.Fez invited both of them to the xmas party which was nice.It was all for the best that Ron forced the issue in hopes of a smooth resolution, and his genius move was to make Big A a stand-in substitute Fez so that Mikey could apologize and ease the situation even though Fez was regaining his composure in another office. They shook hands, and Fez made it clear it was still a long road to his recovery of HEALTH which comes first and then to a slow re-establishment of their "together "time, meaning Fez still needs plenty of time to get over Mikey,so some distance remains. All said everyone must agree that the final outcome of today was positive.
