View Full Version : The Champ: Worst intern ever?
TheRealEddie

Anyone else find "the champ" to be incredibly annoying? I wish R+F
would just keep him off the air, he has no "bit" other than parading
around in a belt talking himself up. There have been "bad" interns in
terms of talent, but they were usually likeable or entertaining on some
level. This guy's routine on air got tired within the first 5 minutes.

Makes me really miss Bitz or Benicio who actually had charisma and talent.

I've gotta disagree. The Champ's recommendation to "eat your vegetables" and his declaration that "It's all about the kids" are the funniest, (self-generated) lines I've heard out of the 3rd mike since the Buddays are on XM. (Sorry Harry.) Admittedly it's a pretty flimsy bit and it won't last forever.

I only heard the first half hour of the show live today but it sounded like R&F were starting to turn on him so I think we'll all be enjoying the Champ's ride on the down slope soon enough.

The Champ is hysterical - like all of them, he does need his balls busted from time to time, but unlike some of them (and unlike some paid staff) he can actually take it and not keep him from shrinking back.

I like the Champ. R&F created a gimmick for him, and he has enough skill and confidence to go with it.

of course no one would argue that harry doesn't stink. what makes it worse with him is that he gets paid for showing up.

it seems to me that ron and fez have been running on a much thinner staff on xm than they were even at wjfk!

The champ could not move on from that ONE bit of being the champ. The whole children and eating the veggies is an easy reach and I give him zippy credit for being creative at all.

Want to be funny.........play the Earth 2 champ.........how he laughs at old people falling down, 12 steppers falling off the wagon, babies being born with spade shaped heads............whatever...just riff to be a little different

doing a guinnea version of hogan doesn't last long is such an easy comedy pull.

All I know is that if I drive 20 miles east I am in the greatest city on gods green earth and if I drive 20 miles west I am incredibly deep in the most beautiful woods I've ever seen. Where else on earth can you do that, but Jersey baby?

Today was the first day I really started getting sick of the champ
bit. It does seem to be getting a little tired and
repetitious. It's still better than him doing Nortons act every
time he gets on mic though.
He came to Master Po's grand opening which took balls because he had to know everyone was going to make fun of him. In addition he also brought his little brother with him, who took a picture with of all things a wiffle ball bat. It really shows that hes got guts, and is really actually a nice guy.

I like the Champ.

I agree that the gimmick can't last forever, but he's making it work right now.

The thing is Ron & Fez LET him do his thing. They don't let Harry work anything, so we'll never know whether he has a good idea or not. Not to defend the guy, but I think the Anti-Harry pendulum has swung too far. They're too quick too smash him, and smash him for too many little things.

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a65/j3lehane/BigMarsWackadooMarineAnimalsOnHills.jpgThe Wackadoo interns need more guidance from say a team like Billy Staples,Mikey D,Perrynoid & Craig Coleman.Unfortunately only Billy & Mikey are in NYC,so they are the most likely candidates.Craig has a history with the Don & Mike show from dc wjfk. But Craig may be too busy with his real job to even consider a MOVE in such a risky biz as radio.Perrynoid has lotsa free time & ideas but feels more comfortable working from home. His R&F association may have netted him some spin-off jobs from exposure/getting his name out. There's so much I can't forsee because what happens when a new group of interns comes thru the mill? For R&F I think less reliance on INTERN bits is the way to go.The difference between R&F/O&A and the Stern approach is CELEBS. Variety, the pot luck spice of life is what keeps listeners.
Speaking from my own
experiences, just because someone is completely smashed on the air
doesn't mean that he doesn't have major contributions to the show and
is considered a valuable asset off-the-air. Ron and Fez ALWAYS
need a whipping boy. Harry fills the role.
