<p>today i was driving to work, on a backroad through some farmland in Monroe and a tiny bird flew out into the center of my lane and stayed there. he flew there just&nbsp;two or three seconds&nbsp;before&nbsp;i approached. after i passed i saw the small white of it's belly laying in the road. i didn't get it with the tire but it must have got hit by the bottom of the car... There were no other birds around, no other cars on this 2 mile stretch of road. he just jumped out...</p><p>the first thought that went through my mind is &quot;that bird just purposely committed suicide&quot;. Mind you I've hit almost every animal in the state from deer, fox, hawk, squirrel, cat, rabbit, skunk, raccoon, frogs, possum, turtle. I've seen animals just come out of nowhere just before the car approaches, Had 2 deer run into the side of my car. Hit another deer who changed the direction he was going in&nbsp;to be in my path.</p><p>do you think animals can just give up and decide they don't want to live anymore?</p>

<p><font size="1">i don't think so. in order to want to die, you have to know what death is</font></p><p>i was thinking they've seen death before such as others getting hit by cars.&nbsp; i also saw a nature documentary about a male monkey and his mom. he was so attached to her that when she passed away he just gave up and refused to eat or drink and the guess was he went into depression. he starved himself to death</p><p>i know it's far fetched and crazy but sometimes i see things and it gives me the impression there is more to it than we think</p>

I havent been able to find any proof online, but I remember a story from the series the Thornbirds that there was this kind of bird that mates for life and if its mate dies, it impales itself on a thorn to kill itself.&nbsp;

well, if a cat climbs a tree and falls off a branch, snaps its kitty

all over, while the lil kitty remains take one last involuntary
movement while a gurgling of kitty blood can be heard in its lil kitty
lungs. I'd consider that an animal who commited suicide.<br />
