So I'm walking down Broadway, and this older white man is walking straight at me.   I take a step to the side...so does he...Then he says: "You don't scare me!" I, at first, found that kind of funny.   I enjoy it when the crazies talk to me.But then as I am walking away, he continues: "I'm not afraid of any of you niggers!"I am not exactly sure how to feel...I know that there are racists out there, but I have never had it thrown in my face like that.It has definitely affected me, a lot more than I would have expected.Damn...

Dont let it effect you, I know it must hurt, but keep in mind that he wants you to hurt and if you let it, he wins.  He was an idiot and certainly not worthy of your time thinking about it.  You cant change people, but you can change how you chose to feel.  Be larger than them!

That sucks!  Especially around the holidays.  Most of that kind of shit comes from older people who are pissed of at the world in general.  I feel sorry for people like that, but not too sorry.

It really is pitiful that this is still happening in this day and age! I disagree. I think if you reacted or felt intimidated, then you have ley them effect you.  By not reacting, your signaling that they are not worthy of your attention.  If enough people chose to not be effected, these slurs would be meaningless.

a dominican buddy of mine moved to a white area, and his old neighbor was facinated with him being hispanic. he told him he used to work with a guy called "louie the spic" and about what a lazy piece of shit he was. my friend told me he was pretty much dumbfounded and didn't know what to say to the old man. he just humored him. so i apologized to my friend on behalf of the white people.

I think MDR may have got a little upset because he responded with something like "kill whitey"...

About 9 years ago, I was walking from down Broadway from 103rd street to 96th street because the 1 train I was on had a smoke condition.  I was 7 months pregnant and a black man walking up the street in my direction cursed me out for being a "White Devil bring more White Devils into the world."  He proceeded to also spit in my face and his spit hit the right side of my nose and just above my lips.He wasn't yelling at me when he did it, so no one around me understood why a crazy pregnant woman was beating a black man with her umbrella and screaming FUCK YOU at the top of her lungs at 7:45 am.It takes a lot to make me cry and that did it.  Anyway, to this day I still feel where the spit fell on my face and wish only that I had had an umbrella with the pointy end so that I could have stabbed him.
