View Full Version : I'm a little sick of Fez's attitude with Mikey D.

I'm listening to the replay of the show where they have Mikey D in to apologize and I'm just sick to death of the way Fez completely blames Mikey D for EVERYTHING.

It's like HE didn't do ANYTHING. He admits he forgot Mikey D's birthday. I don't think either of them are blameless, but come on.

Fez was emotional and drunk and he's not even taking any of that into consideration it seems. Just Mikey was wrong, that's it.

I mean I'm glad they made up to the point where they are now, but Jesus Fez, you're not easy to deal with.

IN my opinion Bennington put him up to this stress for selfish reasons......

Ronny just wants to support his old perverted needs and get Mikey D's wife back in the studio.

Because yes, my stomache dropped when I felt the stress Fezzy had from all of this.

Not very cool really.

Why are some of you mad at Ron? He didn't fly off the handle and throw a friend out of his life. He didn't explode in a drunken rage on the air. I think you should commend Ron for forcing the subject and making Fez face this. You can't run from shit in your life.

yeah, this thing's lost its legs.

I know it's not a bit. I'm not trying to say that I'm sick of the bit. This is something we all feel invested in slightly as fans of the show and after seeing it all transpire. All us NYC fans love Mikey D and love seeing him as part of the show. We all just want Fez and him comfortable again.

All about Fez? Seriously you're one to talk. Both of these guys have been nothing but nice to me the few times I was in studio and or at events. It just comes down to them figuring it out for themselves. I think Ronnie needed to get them together in an effort to at least see where things were between them. Hell, friends fight all the time and it's always hard to be the bigger man in this situation. I don't know the whole situation (for real), and I'm sure most of us don't bc these things go deeper then what happens on the radio. Let them figure it out for themselves.

Quick summary: Mikey D took the ball-busting too far this past March after Fez forgot his birthday. Fez was having a rough month, grandma dying and all, and on his birthday he got really drunk. When Mikey D called in to wish him a happy birthday (half serious half ball-busting), Fez just tore into him and from moment in talk radio history we got some great songs (call that melted fezzie down), "you never cut me any slack," and all this crap that continues to this day.

Finally progress is being made, but it seems like Fez is channelling a lot of that negative energy from his grandma dying/recent health problems into this relationship and blaming Mikey D far more than is neccessary.

Just go into the file library and check out almost any show from a few years ago. Mikey D was really fuckin tight with these guys for a long time, I just hope they can get back to that soon.

Also while I agree with Moe that Fez should have put this aside a long time ago Mikey's character on air for the time the boys were in DC was an annoying jealous bitch.

Each and every call he made was awful. Do you remember his fight with Ray Bottoms? He took one punch!

Mikey sounded better on the air Friday and his chic also said he has changed. I'm happy for him in that way and he could probably return to the air in a positive way

From what we know from the show, the following is what went wrong.

A. Fez forgot Mikey's birthday

B. Mikey was upset that Fez forgot his birthday.

C. Fez apologized for missing Fez's birthday. (as an aside, when Mikey informed Ron that he forgot his birthday, Ron's response was "So?")

D. Mikey didn't accept Fez's apology for missing his birthday.

E. Fez was going through a difficult time because his grandmother was dying (and eventually died), and because of whatever uncertainties were going on at the time with his career.

F. Mikey wanted to come down to Virginia for Fez's birthday at the end of March and stay at Fez's house.

G. Fez was still annoyed at Mikey and didn't want him to come down, but Mikey apparently kept pushing and Ron had to tell him not to come down.

H. Mikey called the show during Fez's birthday.

I. Fez was drinking on air and had the infamous meltdown memorialized in replays and song.

J. Several weeks later Rory Hamptons had a birthday party in the NY area and invited Fez.

K. Mikey's daughter, Lenay, had her confirmation scheduled the same weekend.

L. Since Fez was going to be in the area on that weekend, Lenay called the show to invite Fez to come to her confirmation.

M. Fez felt that Mikey put Lenay up to calling, and in the process, inserted her into the situation, and made him look like a heel on jis own show when he had to decline the invitation.

N. Which brings us to last Friday...

And I'm not going to lay blame at the feet of either party. None of us knows anything other than what we've heard on the air, and none of us has stood in the shoes of either Fez or Mikey.

quote:
this whole thing is a gimmick at this point.

I am 99.9999999999% certain none of this was a gimmick, and the only reason it's not 100% is because there are few things in life that is.

Fez has been more open about his life on the show than I'm sure he's comfortable with, especially with relation to this. Mikeyboy gave an excellent recap of everything, but the thing that some people are missing is the context of it - nine months of this - of times when Fez seemed ready to move on, then something would happen which would light him up again. It wasn't just one thing, but a culmination of things.

And yes - I think everyone knew/assumed that Fez and Mikey D. would find a way back to be friendly, at least on the show. That's why when Ron would ask people's opinions on the show to take a side, no one would dare - same thing when listeners would go out to FNL with Fez - there was not Mikey D. bashing because no one wanted to be that person that made the big stink, only to see the friends get back together. But no one, to the best of my knowledge, whose been seeing this since the start has ever thought it was amped up for the radio.

But what would Fez have to apologize for, past the first birthday thing??? He told someone flat out, more than once, that he didn't want to be that person's friend anymore - that's what it came down to. People are allowed to do that, regardless of how it effects strangers listening to a radio show. People are also allowed to hold out hope and try and rekindle it, and thankfully for them Mikey D. didn't react in anyway that would torch the bridge.

I really, really don't get the comment about his "attitude." Fez was more than honest that he holds onto things too much - that he has a difficult time letting go of grudges - and that he wanted to free himself of the stress in his life, and the easiest way to do that was to forgive instead of cutting Mikey D. completely free. The man had a heart attack that was brought on because of genetics, diet and stress.

The bottom line (for me, as someone who followed it from that first night) is that THEY found a way to put aside the last nine months and got some resolution. I really thought there was a decent chance that that was the last time Mikey D. was going to be on the show, up until Helen and Rich called. It really sounded like it took a lot out of Fez to make that pull and put his trust that he was making the right decision in welcoming an old friend back into his life.

It's funny how Mikey D blamed Harry for having him call in on Thursday, the same way he blamed Giant Brian for the whole "forgetting about his birthday thing" getting blown out of proportion, and the way he used to blame Wonderboy for anything stupid he used to say...He never takes responsibility for his actions, even when he tries to say he's taking responsibility...He lost all credibility with me after he ruined the St. Pat's Spat...Even Friday, he would say "If I was wrong, I want to apologize." You WERE wrong..say you're sorry...You're still laying blame on the other person...I hate when someone tries to be sincere, and then still leaves the door open like it might not be their fault...Take responsibility, no matter how hard it is, eat what shit you have to, and you'll be respected...I give it before the end of the year before Mikey D over steps his bounds, and pisses off Fezzie again...And now that he's back on the show, I hope he doesn't take any more inappropriate Christmas pictures of his daughter...That was one of the creepiest shows I ever heard when he talked about how sexy Lenay was posing for them...He's got some major issues...I think thats even worse than blowing Scott Baio's cousin in the backseat while his father was driving.

Once more....if someone decides that enough is enough, for whatever reason, and they want to break it off - regardless of whether the relationship is between buddies or more intimate - then that is that. Game over. THAT person doesn't have to apologize if they don't want to be friends anymore - the burden is always on the person who still wants to salvage the relationship. It sucks - I've been on both sides of that - but it's the way it is.

With me, I once had to cut someone out because of the way they made me nuts, even though they really did nothing wrong. Just the way they were triggered something with me that just got under my skin. I recognized the problem was me, but the only solution was to remove myself from that person. Not saying this is what happened with Fez, but I'm simply giving an example of how sometimes you just need to worry about yourself, and the best thing is to remove yourself from a situation, without guilt.

Although I'm sure this thread isn't going to help much, (with the exception of my picture of the pug with his his tomatos), thankfully Fez and Mikey D. are trying to put 2005 behind them. I can't imagine anything worse than having a friendship play out like that over the radio.

That picture of the pug with his tomatos is going to be on the cover of the debut cd from the new band "One Ounce of Slack" a hip new group Mikeyboy and I are putting together. If we are lucky we can open for Russell Crowe's band, "30 Odd Foot of Grunts" this time, next year.
