View Full Version : Moon + Mars tonight [Sunday]
Mike Teacher

If you've never seen Mars with the naked eye and knew it was Mars, the red planet is very close to the moon tonight. All night. Go outside and it's right there, up in the sky. Yep, that way...

The reddish tinge of Mars can be seen with the naked eye to differeing degrees; some can't see it, some can. It's sometimes easier to notice the red if you use averted vision, don't look directly at mars, look away, our eyes sense color a bit better at the edges then right dead center.

And to bring things to a cosmic scale, while they look close together in the sky, Mars is 245 times farther away from us then the moon.

I really hope one specific poster is outside all night howling at Mars instead of posting retarded photoshops on this board.

The geminids peaked last night, and sadly with a full moon so the skies werent very dark, and I went out about 5am for about 5 mins but was driven back in by the cold. Saw nada, but they were indeed in action last night.

Bits of rock the size of a matchhead coming in to the atmosphere so fast the kinetic energy blazes them for that split second of their death.

A bit bigger, say the size of a house, and you get Meteor Crater out west. And Google/Wikipedia 'Tunguska' and read about how Something huge exploded over Siberia early in the century, flattening forests for miles around.

this is a little off topic but still somewhat relevant

usually during the MLB playoffs and sometimes during regular season as well and in the NFl too, they sometimes show the moon full screen during a game. One of these days i wanna see some kind of activity up there, ufo's flying past or landing or explosions or something. Believable? Maybe. Leans toward the Art Bell side of life a
