What I learned: Howard invented reality shows, and he invented Politically Incorrect. I swear to god, when he started that ridiculous spiel, I thought he was going to claim he invented the Daily Show. What a joke.

He also said moving to Sirius allows him to INVENT a whole new medium.

He HAS to be dropping that word as a goof now.

What's funny about the whole "reality tv on the radio schtick," that's actually been the angle Don and Mike have taken in the last couple of years - I definately heard them make that observation way before he did.

He's a media whore right now. More exposure means more subscriptions to Sirius which'll get him more more scratch down the line. TDS' demographic spends the most out of anyone, so it makes sense right now to suck it up and show up. Money talks...

Since when has he hated Jon Stewart? Stewart has been a guest on many times. He's busted on him, but he also busts on Letterman, and he's always remained loyal to Dave (even with Evil Dave).

Finally saw the interview during the 8 PM replay tonight...I was amused. Nothing earth-shattering, but it was fun seeing Howard a little more relaxed. The salesman bit got tremendously old, but who didn't see that coming? His "I invented..." story was pretty non-inflammatory, despite what the foaming at the mouth crowd would have you think. The guy said Comedy Central approaced him in the early 90's about doing a show. He said one of his ideas was a sort of news parody/debate show, that sort of became Politcally Incorrect. That's a pretty random and minor thing to take credit for, and given the timeframe then I have little doubt CC was probably dying to have a show backed by or featuring Stern, and this was probably one of the half assed ideas tossed out. His main point seemed to be that CC was and still is a cheap network, something numerous people have complained/joked about over the years.

Stern's "free radio" show has been tired and pretty dull for years, but I still tune in every so often, and I'm curious to hear his Sirius show once he makes the shift over to satellite.

*Blatant trolling ahead*

I mean, it can't possibly be worse than the aural dreck O&A have been shilling since I started listening again, right?

*Blatant trolling over*

But seriously, I hate O&A's XM show, and would rather listen to Stern on Sirius at this point. Oh well. Life goes on.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I genuinely pity people like Howard.

He's lived his life chasing his dream to be "King" and has made himself miserable in the process. You'd think someone who has achieved the level of success that he has would have some feelings of contentment.

Yeah, but the radio business is packed with people like him.

For the most part, all of these jocks just want to be bigger and more famous and on more stations and get more money all by trying to say or do the most outrageous things possible just so they can have more attention directed square at them for ultimately doing/saying "bad" or socially unacceptable things.

Looking at the radio biz from a psychological standpoint, it's a nightmare.

The Stern haters would actually have something in their "Hoo Hoo - I invented" gripes if ABC hadn't pulled that galling "Am I Hot?" tv show 2 years ago - where they ripped off Stern's evaluation gig, right down to Ralph's laser pointer. Coincidence that one of the producers worked on Stern's E show or that they just happened to have Jackie the Jokeman as a guest judge one week??? I haven't listened to Howard with any regularity in a couple of years now, but I have to admit his ubiquitous media pressence this last month has gotten me interested in what he's going to do on Sirius. I don't know about him inventing the medium, but I do know that in 1981, on DC-101, he was the first person that ever got me interested in who was on the radio.

I can't believe what I'm reading. Look, if you enjoy Stern, I don't care, to each his own. But to downplay his ego I can't understand. I went into that interview expecting him to take credit for inventing something, and he did exactly that but claming he not only came up with the idea for Politcally Incorrect, but the entire reality show format. Then there was the time MTV Unplugged thing that he claimed he invented. Like no one had ever put an acoustic performance on the radio before him. He couldn't have possibly believed that, it had to be a complete lie he knew he was telling. I'm surprised that he hasn't taken credit for inventing lesbians. Not on the radio, just in general. Has he already? If he sees something popular, he needs to have credit.

BTW, on that "Am I Hot?" thing, does he still mention it anymore, or did all mentions of creating that stop when the show bombed?

Hell, "King of All Media" was always intended to be a joke. As he said in his Washington Post interview over the weekend, the ego is there because of how insecure he is, which anyone who has listened to him for almost 30 years has already known. Also, aside from the "Am I Hot" there are other examples of him legitimately being ripped off - and as someone who just dealt with Viacom/Spike TV/MTV over Halloween, I can tell you that they LOVE to take meetings with creative people then (instead of hiring them) LIFT MATERIAL AND USE IT THEMSELVES. It fucking happens, and I can give you the names of people in Dayton, Ohio, Chicago, Illinois and Austin, Texas where it happened to this last October by a scumbag MTV producer.
