View Full Version : Brand Loyalty

Gvac

Are there any products or services that you find yourself totally loyal to one particular brand?

For example, I have friends that will only own Ford Trucks, others swear by Chevy, and still others pledge their allegiance to Toyota.

In my own case, I've owned Chevys, Fords, Dodges, Nissans, and Toyotas and generally I'm willing to try anything new.

The only product that comes to mind for me is cell phones. After numerous nightmares with Motorola and Samsung, I am ever loyal to Nokia. I'll never own anything else.

Any other endorsements?

I will be watching this thread very closely.

For many many years, my wife (and in a limited capacity, myself) worked for a hugely successful company that focuses solely on helping companies create brand awareness & brand loyalty.

It's our experience that, people are never really LOYAL to one brand.

DO THEY HAVE A PREFERENCE....YES. ARE THEY LOYAL....NO.

In other words, a huge number of people actually do have a favorite cola. But, if the restaurant they happen to be sitting in only serves the opposite brand....the customer TRULY DOES NOT CARE.

"Anything else?"

"yes, a Diet Coke please"

"Sorry...will a Diet Pepsi be okay?

"Yeah, sure...whatever"

That (kind of thing) would happen 100 PERCENT of the time. People -even those with a strong preference- NEVER say "oh, you only have Pepsi? Well, then. I'll have an Ice-tea"

We would also see this with batteries, razors, potato chips, & movie studios, etc . No REAL customer loyalty. This is why every bag of chips or pack of batteries you've ever bought displays some additional copy on the package. "Win a trip to Hollywood" etc etc. It's not just simple, product related, direct advertising.

People are loyal to price and convienience.

Electronics do have a higher loyalty. But that is a whole other thang....

I disagree about the soda thing. I've asked for a coke and when they said pepsi, I changed to something completely different.

I'm extremly loyal to JVC. My dad bought me a multiple CD player for christmas one year, and it was a Aiwa (which was owned and manufactured by sony). The thing was a piece of shit. I loaded it with CDs and couldn't get them out (the buttons didn't do what they were supposed to--stop would play, eject would stop, etc...). I think when we took it back where he bought it they basically had to take a sledghammer to it to get the cds out. We exchanged it for a JVC, close to ten years later it's still working like a charm.

I bought a JVC TV (still working great), and will probably only buy JVC in the future.

I just thought of another brand I'm forever loyal to - Skechers sneakers. Their wide size is the only one I have ever found that fits me properly. What Avia, New Balance, and others call a "wide" is a joke. I actually buy 3 pairs at a time when I can find the Skechers because they're so hard to locate.

So here's my question.

A few months ago, I bought a pair of sunglasses at TJ Maxx. I really liked them. They fit my face well, and my vision while driving was vastly improved. Also, they only cost about 10-15 bucks.

(I was wearing Oakleys, but they blocked my peripheral vision which became a hassle while driving)

I lost them over the weekend, and now I'm looking for replacement pairs on the internet.

Same sunglasses now cost thirty bucks on ebay and amazon.

Am I dumb for replacing them at a premium because I liked them that much?

No. TJMaxx is a discount place to begin with, and $30 is not a lot for good sunglasses. If it was like 100, maybe. Think of it this way, you got two pairs of sunglasses you really like for $45.

Excellent point.

In a related story, I tried a hail mary pass after posting and found the lost sunglasses after retracing my steps and making a few calls to some stores I had been in. After picking them up I'm going to still buy a second pair as a "backup".
