Do they get it ? Giant Brian knew what the show was about and actually cared. I wish they would have gotten to see that.
Giant Brian was a Giant Bore...His humor, or lack there of, was total Midwest hack...Every time he got on the mic, he brought the show to a screaming halt...Brian the Giant speedbump.

It took me a while to get used to Giant Brian because he wouldn't
let Ron and Fez walk all over him like Wonderboy and the rest of their
producers. But after I got over the change, I liked GB alot. I thought
he was very funny and had good sense of comedy and timing. I even still
have the Giant Show on my Ipod ;).

I never heard GB on air, but I do have several older shows (pre-GB and XM days) on file and it sort of worries me when I compare qualities of the show pre-and post XM. I understand change takes time, but I am afraid that maybe in the change over to greener pastures, something has been lost...... I worry about the buddays, esp as I listen to the downward spiral that is on before them.

Midwest? You are insane.
Giant Brian is very original, and if anything he was a sheltered
suburban boy who didn't understand midwestern values- I loved him for
that.
Listen to the Joe Poo and Al Dukes era shows. Absolutely classic. I think the fact that they are not on late nights makes a difference. Different energy. I still think having a medocre producer like Earl is a major fator but I got tarred and feathered for even asserting anything negative against Earl, the fragile man with glass emotions.

Answer me this: What does Ben Sparks do? If you can't answer that, you should drop it.

Ron and Fez ALWAYS have a target, and it's USUALLY the producer,
unless the producer is teflon. Rory was the first example of
this, but his work was so seamless, Ron and Fez couldn't pick on him
that much.

The same could be said for Earl. So Harry fills the role of "the target".

Just because Earl is pretty much invisible on-the-air doesn't mean he's a bad producer.

He is not invisible on air. He is on air quite often, and he is bad on air. As for production, I never see anything manifest on air from work that he does off air. So where is the contribution ?

Did you ever think
that the pre-produced bits between segments (1000 reasons to hate
Kansas City, If Retards Ruled The World, etc) may have been his
idea? Or perhaps, he has a role in... wait for it... PRODUCING
them? O&A had NO original bits playing between show segments
- they were either the O&A "Days of Our Lives" mini-best ofs or
just music production pieces.

Radio stations don't have credits like TV Shows and
Movies. If you think Ron and Fez are doing EVERY SINGLE THING on
the show by themselves and Earl just stands around twiddling his
thumbs, you have no idea how radio works.

Well since this is titled new XM listeners but seems to have gone in another direction, I will try to bring it back to something resembling the topic.

I go way back to the WNEW days when they were on at 11pm and followed them to their numerous timeslots. I was never active on the boards, nor was I an active caller. When the boys went to DC, I stopped listening because I hated sitting at my computer trying to listen to older shows, so when I heard they were going to XM I was hoping to here them again. Well for my birthday a few days ago my fiance got me a myfi and I hate not sitting in my car now. The show is great, but I do agree, there is something about the nightime shows over the early shows. Back in the day all the drunken shows that would go on and such, everything seemed abit more on. But the show is still fn brilliant.

Now in regards to Earl, I only have a few days to base my opinion on but I have nothing against him. I figure he must be doing something right though, I haven't really heard him get ripped on like Al used to and Harry seems to be the target of.. but I could be wrong.

Fuck it, I am rambling with nothing remotly interesting to say.. I am looking back at what I just typed and it just looks like a fuckin mess but fuck it, I am too lazy to hit the delete button...

...but not to lazy to cheaply plug the January 7th Crankcase Show at the Crossroads in Garwood, New Jersey! Theres beer and alligator which ='s goodtimes. Drunken alligators dancing to the sounds of Crankcase is an experience like no other. Whatever.. I stink.
