Gimmick or not, this shit just plain sucks.  It's awful when Shaggy does it, it's terrible when some mushmouthed homophobe out of the Jamaican ghettos does it, and it's even worse when this idiot does it.  Sure, maybe this is this genre "real" or "raw" or whatever the fuck, but give me dub watered down into something else.  As a genre it's good for sampling, at best.

Matisyahu is a great singer, I've seen him several times now and he always delivers. I am glad to see him getting the attention he deserves. He loves this music and it shows, it doesn't matter what his religion is. I saw this guy back in June at the Bonnaroo Music Festival down in TN. I wasn't entirely impressed with his act but the dude can beat box like crazy, he was making me move and that's all I really cared about.

in half the music threads around here, people bring up artists nobody has ever fucking heard of. or some obscure song a group made on a japanese released single. im not buju banton's #1 fan or whatever. but you dont find this man doing this music at all interesting? im just sayin, its pretty cool. we al didnt work at the shop in high fidelity and listen to deep tracks on XM. i get it you're too hip.

im gonna refer you to an earlier post i made...he's a fucking hasidic jew doing reggae...that in itself, while yes is a gimmick, is fucking hysterical. to be honest, i like the band. im not paying attention to what hes saying. sorry moe, but i think death metal is AWFUL. hoe can anyone listen to a cd of either nonstop screaming or a singer talking like hes a monster real low into the mic thats too close to his mouth. but certain songs here and there are listenable. (hatebreed, mushroomhead)

But anyway, enough about Death Metal.  I could go on all day.This guy seems to have good rhythm and a good voice as far as my knowledge of Reagge goes.  I just don't like the genre.  I don't understand the White Suburban appeal of the music either, but that's why there's more than one color in the crayon box I guess.  Only thing that comes CLOSE to Reagge that I've liked was when Fuzzybutt loaned me a "The Special" CD.  I always keep that on my iPod.

If you don't like reggae or Jewish music you won't like Matisyahu. I think it's pretty good for a white jewish guy. We're not exactly known for our urban cred.If you really wanna see a fantastic show, check out Balkan Beat box, another jewish band. Or the levees.

i had the (ugh) pleasure of listening to this entire CD while working on a project with classmates.  I had heard most of my other classmates going on and on about this guy, and was willing to give him a fair shake.  As we were so engulfed in work, the CD cycled through about three times before someone (I) suggested it be changed in favor of something that didn't stink on ice.  The guy's got a gimmick, I'll give him that, but so does Tom Leykis.  I can't decide which I'd rather use to hurt my ears.  I'll just stick to Sublime thanks.

Based on this comment, I'm not sure Moe even knows what raggae is.  snoogs thanks for saving me the effort. first of all everyone stop referring to snow as a reggae artist he 's a white guy from canada who learned his fake jamaican accent in jail. and while i like anyone who talks about smoking two joints in the morning they are not even close to reggae. im west indian and i love reggae, but every single abortion of this music pisses me off. from fuckin hot 97 playin a reggae song only after its been out for at least 2 years, to fucking hispanic folk who cant leave my music alone and put gibberish over it and call it reggaeton, and now there is matisyahu, and amazingly he pisses me off the least. not saying i like him cause i don't. i dont think he's talented but at least he doesnt pretend that he's jamaican. now reggaeton pisses me off why cant they take their own crappy spanish music and leave the music of WEST INDIANS alone. sorry for venting and i know it seems like im being racist here saying that its for West indians alone, but music is one of the last things West Indians have to themselves.

if by ghettoization you are referring to sugar cane fields for miles, a forest that runs thick right up to the ocean, or a beautiful sound of steel pan then i understand you. but if by ghetto you mean some kind of concrete jungle then no you are incorrect with what you thought i was saying. when eminem first came out i hated him i thought he was a white guy using a gimmick. for the most part i feel i was wrong about em because he lived a hard life and he has skill, the only two things that should matter in hip hop. now matisyahu now there is a gimmick. but reggae despite what some radio stations claim: IS NOT HIP HOP.  and every great reggae artist has followed the same path they all respected thsoe who came before them and the music they created. they know who the mighty sparrow is, they know who crazy and shadow and supa blue and red plastic bag is. matisyahu doesnt. so to me respecting the art is fine if it is real to you and u respect its roots, but this white guy from NY has no idea what West Indain culture is and he'd like to know i could always take him to liberty ave and get some curry goat and dahlpari, and if he doesnt know what that is then he has no right using my peoples music simply to make a buck.and for the record sean paul has his roots in one of those hispanic caribbean islands, but he grew up his entire life in jamaica and i love him. so no i am not a racist i guess im a culturalist

Charlie Manson learned to play guitar in jail and the man who taught him was Alvin Karpas, the longest running Public Enemy #1 in U.S. History. Isn't Charlie Manson still a guitar player, even tho he was not taught by Andre Segovia, or Paco DeLucia or Son House?
