Why Moby (Dick)?

<p>What is the reasoning behind why this big fat fish would be called Moby Dick? I mean, Moby sounds okay enough for a fish, but what's with the Dick? i think that it was originally Moby Richard.

Dick is a generic name - in eone of the chapters I think Melville mentiones other whales who have various generic names...<div><br /></div><div>at any rate, I think he is supposed to have based Moby Dick on a real whale named Mocha Dick, who used chased whaling ships near the island of Mocha or something like that...</div>
