Easiest song to learn on guitar? [Archive]

Just got my 8 year old his 1st Axe. What do you guys think is an easy song to learn that will give gratification, and the will to learn more? He definitely likes the sound he can make, and I have pulled out some old standards so he knows what it is supposed to sound like.He LOVES  "Out Of The Blue(And into the Black)", "Needle and the Damage Done", "Tangled Up In Blue" "Pinball Wizard" and I even bit the bullet, and pulled up "Stairway To Heaven"{DENIED!!}Anyway, what acoustic tune can be learned quickly and be recognizable. I have to keep up the enthusiasm?

I took about 4 lessons when I was a kid. The teacher had me doing some easy rythm from some Neil Young and Eagles songs after 1 or 2 lessons. I can't remember which ones they were, but they were pretty damn simple.

Heavens Door - GnR / F# C# B for entire song=Move that baby up a half step to G, D, and C, much easier on those with acoustics, which ususally suck for barre chords, and/or lose intonation above the, oh, fifth to seventh fret for some.You looking for riffs of chords? Anywho, the net has just about everything out in easy chord tab, just google the title and throw 'tablature' in and you should be good to go.Speaking of G, D, and C, Pink Floyd has a lot of acoustic stuff thats very easy, and they record at A440 or close enough to play along to. And get depressed to. And get high too. Maybe skip the last two for now. Then save up and buy a Takamine.

There's more to learning a song than just learning the intro.DON'T BE INTRO GUY!! Pick a song you dig, and learn it -all of it- in sections.  It's much more satisfying.  (For you AND the for listener.)  Play it IN TIME. Tap your foot.  Smooth it out.   For a beginner, "What I Got" just might be the easiest song to follow.  It is built around two chords.  It does go to a third chord (a"C") exactly once in the song but, otherwise...it's a "D" and "G".  Stick with it.  Let us know how it's coming along! EDIT: Just reread the 1st post in this thread.  For an 8 yr old boy, I would definitely suggest some public domain stuff ("Happy Birthday"  and stuff like that) and then let HIM pick an easy song that he likes so he's motivated to learn more. For a child, learning intros and stuff be fun. Don't overwhelm him with scales and technique immediately.  Let him get some satisfaction from actually playing something he likes.  GOOD LUCK TO HIM.  <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v355/tucker71/fezident.jpg" border="0" /> It's made with real bits of Panther so...you KNOW it's good.
