I was watching Ebert and Roper today and I was happy to see that CRASH was Eberts favorite.

It was, by far, my favorite movie this year. I have been telling anyone and everyone about it since I saw it.

They also had 40 YR OLD VIRGIN on their top 10. Glad to see an all out comedy get a little love from the critics. That stuff always gets overlooked.

MY TOP FIVE:

5) War Of The Worlds

4) Brokeback Mountain

3) Sin City (this reeeally grew on me. didn't love it at first)

2) 40 YR OLD VIRGIN

1) CRASH

HONORABLE MENTION: HISTORY OF VIOLENCE and CHRONICLES OF NARNIA

I'm surprised both Roger and Paul O' had 40 Year Old Virgin in their top 10s. I also agree with Ron that Crash doesn't belong on any list.

The only 2 movies that I enjoyed this year and can remember now were both Spielberg's: 1) Munich and 2) War of the Worlds.

[Edit:] After some thought I've put them in order...but it may change as I see the other films below:

Squid and the Whale

The Constant Gardener

Capote

Sin City

King Kong

Syriana

40 Year Old Virgin

Broken Flowers

Brokeback Mountain

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

I also really liked Jarhead, Batman Begins, Millions, Nine Lives, The Devil's Rejects and Walk the Line. Wedding Crashers, Naked in Ashes and War of the Worlds would be just a notch below that tier. All in all, not the worst years with movies, if you look beyond the megalopiticas-plex.

The list is written in sand since I still haven't seen THESE ten:

March of the Penguins

Grizzly Man

Match Point

Junebug

Hustle & Flow

History of Violence

Munich

Me and You and Everyone We KNow

Murderball

Crash

I'd rather have hope in my soul than soap in my hole...

Ron didn't dig on CRASH?

I can't believe that.

quote:
Ron didn't dig on CRASH?

I can't believe that.
[/quote]
Ron HATES that movie - he spent an entire XM-length segment a week or so ago when he finally watched it about how dumb it was. I am torn because people whose opinions I respect have given me such vastly conflicting opinions - everything from "best movie of all time" to "MAGNOLIA for idiots."
I'd rather have hope in my soul than soap in my hole...

What day did Ron spend so much time on Crash?

I think he discussed it (briefly I think) during Paul O's segment and some time before as well.

I haven't seen alot of movies this year, but I do agree with Fezzie on some movies.

I'm a big budget commercial type of guy, so forgive me. I haven't seen "King Kong" yet, but it might be in my top 10.

My top five are...

5) Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. (I am a geek, not gay)

4) March of The Penguins.

3) Revenge of The Sith.

2) Sin City.

1) Batman Begins.

Munich, hands down.

A History of Violence is also up there for me.

I'm with Ron on Crash, he had a lot of same problems with it that I did. Namely, the whole movie is just one stereotypical racism scene after another, almost like a montage. And with the way everyone keeps "crashing" into each other, you'd think there were all of ten people in LA.

Ironically, Speilberg gets both my votes for best and worst. War of the Worlds was definitely my least favorite of the year.

Hotel Rwanda

History of Violence

he 40 year old Virgin

Wallace and Grommit

Sin City

Crash was an awful, pretentious montage of ironic twists made from a paranoid black man's views of how racism works among white people. WRONG!

My biggest problem filling out the list is that in the last few months the new release bootlegs coming into the country are rotten copies filmed inside a movie theater. That's actually a bonus sometimes - when it's background noise of someone chewing popcorn or seeing someone get up to go the bathroom, (and thinking: "he's been gone a long time. I wonder if everything's alright.") - but when the sound and picture are shit, there's just no point. So I've only seen the new films from the first half of the year. I'll have to wait a few months before I get bootlegs of Brokeback Mountain stolen from the DVD or the internet. I'm sure it will be a big hit here.

I did just get a copy of Deliverance, which should have some whole new meanings watching it in yemen!

I suffered through "The Island", and I thought Syriana was only ok; it felt too much like Traffic, but wasn't nearly as good (same writer, but Sodherberg didn't direct). I would put "Paradise Now" above it. My favorites, in no particular order:

Capote
Batman Begins
Sin City
The Aristocrats
Shopgirl
Hustle & Flow

Disappointments - I do a pretty good job of avoiding awful movies, but I did suffer through these:

Rent
The Island
Be Cool (did a little Uma obsessing. She looked better than ever in Prime and The Producers)

Honorable Mentions -

Me, You and Everyone We Know
Prime
Wedding Crashers
40 Year Old Virgin
