Wow I love Gamera, but that costume looks a bit like a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle reacting to getting ass-raped by a bean bag chair.

Cant remember which Gamera Vs it was [Zigra? Gaos?] where it was the last gamera movie so Joel and the bots had a big celebration, one segment was a musical number detailing the inner working of Gamera, and it ended with each bots interpretation of the gamera song, followed by Dr. Forrester and TVs Frank rocking out. I think that was all the same episode.

Now this is just pissing me off that the show is gone. You an like Mike all ya want, but when old fogies like me watched early enough, it's Joel all the way. Actually for me, the real death of the show was the exit of TVs Frank in the Mitchell [?] episode. I was actually really bummed. I cant watch the shows when Dr. Forrester was replaced by his mom. Just cant... do it...

=

Just got 'Destroy All Monsters' on DVD. Classic. And someday, with hope, we can see the non Raymond Burr-ed original Gojira/Godzilla movie. I have a dubbed boot, and even through it's booty quality, one of the best monster flicks ever.

King Kong vs. Godzilla. Now thats the shit.

Frank hung around a few more years until the 6th season when he was taken up into 2nd Banana Heaven by Torgo.

And yeah, when Pearl showed up, the non-movie segments pretty much became torture, especially once Dr. Forrester himself took off and she ended up in charge. The actual movie segments, however, stayed pretty damn hilarious right up until the end. The latest DVD box set has one of those latter era episodes, Hobgoblins, and it's hysterical. Don't miss out, Mike! God created the FF/skip button for a reason...

I can't find any pics depicting the best part of Gamera...how he flew! He'd pull all of his limbs into his shell and spin around, with flames shooting out of the holes. Truly, we are underestimating the turtle.

quote: Sandy Frank, Sandy Frank

"Likes to crap in his hand!"

Apparently Sandy Frank is still alive, and supposedly loathes the MST3K crew for their treatment of his films. Not that they're even really "his" films...he just bought the rights to shitty Japanese films and redubbed them for sale/broadcast in America. But he's so pissed at how much shit they talked about him on the show that he hasn't allowed the video rights to be used, hence why none of the Gamera episodes are on tape or DVD yet, or two of the greastest MST3K episodes of all time, Time of the Apes ("Why doesn't Johnny care?") and Fugitive Alien ("They tried to kill him with a forklift!").

It was the same situation with the people holding the rights with the Hercules films, though I guess that was settled since two of those flicks finally showed up in the vol. 7 MST3K DVD set. There are still some studios/people bitter over how they got ripped on the show, and it's holding up their DVD release. Joe Don Baker said he'd like to find everyone involved who tore him apart in Mitchell and Final Justice and "punch those sorry bastards in the face."

Over the show's history, their growing popularity really ended up being a double edged sword. Showing up on MST3K actually increased the visibility of many of these hideous films, and as such the people with the distribution rights started asking for MUCH more money anytime the episode was rebroadcast or if they want to relase it on DVD/home video, hence why when the show was on Comedy Central you tended to see the same goddamn episodes over and over and over and OVER again: whatever was cheapest got played the most. And now that's screwing up the DVD releases since people are asking for hefty sums for the video rights.

Dancing with the women at the bar... << He knows his Claret from his Beaujolais >> "You can tell some lies about the good times we've had, but I've kissed your mother twice...and now I'm working on your dad..."
