have any of you ever been influenced by female rockstars or musicians?
when i was younger i was extremely influenced by a lot of the riot grrrl bands.
i really looked up to bands like bratmobile, bikini kill, heavens to betsy, mecca normal, the lizzies, sleater kinney, etc...some of these bands are still together and they continue to inspire me. a lot of these bands taught me that it was ok to be outspoken and opinionated. these bands fuckin rocked my world.
you can click on here to read about the riot grrrl movement, if you're interested.
i have also been extremely influenced by a lot of the older girl bands, like the slits, delta 5, bush tetras, x-ray spex, kleenex/liliput, esg, teenage jesus and the jerks, etc... all of these bands fuckin rocked and they all proof that girls can rock just as hard as guys can.

Chrissy Hynde is one of the most bad ass singer/songwriter/guitarists this side of hell, male or female.
That first Pretenders album still blows me away to this day.

Rock stars, no. Musicians, yes.
In the 90's when I was playing in one particular emo/punk band, we traveled a long way to play a show with Jawbox. I got to hang with Kim Coletta, and she gave me a lot of good insight and advice about the scene and life. At the time I worshipped Jawbox, and Kim turned out to be the coolest damn person. Influenced me significantly for some time.
There is another female musician (not famous) who influenced me greatly. Her name is Leila, and she played guitar in the last good band I was in. She is far and away the best musician I've ever played with, and I learned a lot from her. Nowadays she has a speed metal band out of Indiana called Sutek Conspiracy. She is a great guitarist and a terrific person.
On another note:
While I'm definitely not a part of their target audiences, I've definitely been inspired by some the music of Bj”rk, Tori Amos, and yes R&F fans, Ani DiFranco :).

I was in a band for a while, albeit a crappy one, but I was the only chick in it (this was around the time I was in 8th grade so like 93-94ish) and my hero and still one of them to this day is KIM GORDON. She fuckin rocks so hard!
I also really used to dig this brit band called Fluffy, but they broke up and one of the chicks joined the band harlow on VH1's "bands on the run."
Tanya Donnelly from Belly is pretty bitchin and the KoStars (1/2 of the breeders)rock too!
And as annoying as they are at times I really love the chick from save ferris.

A few other women artists who have been an influence on me: Emmylou Harris, Lucinda Williams, Nancy Griffith, Aretha Franklin, and currently, Macy Gray.
