All week he's having friends call in and wish him farewell. He's
real old, and its past time for him to go, but I'll miss him. I grew up
with him on in the background.

A carpenter I worked with always told me about him everyday we worked. He'd tell me to tune in but I was too busy listening to O&A.

I hear a lot of people respect him so I'll say "Good Luck, Bro!"

See ya Bob. Grew up listening to him too. He's the
master of taking the two sides of a subject and obfuscating any hint of
truth with babble to keep the masses sufficiently stirred and confused.

Ouch! Forgot that one (conveniently)

He's
a relic in so many ways. Racial insensitivity at the top of the list.
But I just chalk that up to his generation, where attitudes were very
different than they are today. Compared to Rush and Sean, who just read
from the RNC playbook, he was refreshingly honest. Some of his beliefs
from a review of his book

Although he espouses the right-wing positions on big government (bad),
taxes (bad), immigration (bad), career welfare clients (bad), the death
penalty (good) and affirmative action (bad), he deviates from it by
backing abortion rights and euthanasia and opposing term limits on
officeholders. On a few issues his positions are more complex: while he
backs gun ownership, he supports gun control

Also, read this first page from his book. Interesting stuff.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/0671537210/ref=sib_fs_bod/002-9212543-1301626?%5Fencoding=UTF8&p=S013&checkSum=ZjVZroMvS KnR38qQoO12bp5SB1VlAWM2S79uFLSaLDU%3D#reader-page

(sorry to make you copy/paste but my link button doesn't work anymore)

He's been very cagey about what his future plans are. Not saying
he's going to
retire, not saying what he's going to do. But today I
think he let the cat out of the bag.

Sounds alot like he's
going to Sirius. A friend of his called who's working at Sirius said to
him
"Bob, I dont know what your plans are, but there's plenty of
openings here and you could get
a show here tomorrow" And he responded
"Well. . . . . I think we'll be seeing alot more of each other soon"
A class act, so different from another radio personality who recently went to satellite.

"We have in our city, we have in our state of New York, we have in our nation, not hundreds of thousands but millions of sub-humanoids, savages, who really would feel more at home careening... along the sands of the Kalahari or the dry deserts of eastern Kenya -- people who, for whatever reason, have not become civilized. Am I the only one who makes that observation? No, certainly not. Perhaps I express it more directly, more candidly, far less euphemistically than politicians would."

Bob you will be missed.. I know its unlikely but maybe one day the man will take the drive up from Manalapan, to XM's stuidos in NY....

He's made it pretty clear it'll be a short retirement. I'm guessing Sirius.
grant is one of a select few in the media who has never been afraid to tell it like it is. like he says - 'someone has to say these things...it can only be me'

i hope he continues somewhere else

Even though Grant is very conservative he wasn't one of these republican stooges like Sean Hanity or Rush who blindly follow the Republicans and never say a positive about democrats. Grant has been slaughtering Bush about his perceived ineptitude in the handling of the war in Iraq.

Even Howard Stern called in on the last show (Friday) and genuinely complimented and praised Bob as an innovator. I've never heard Howard say a nice thing about another broadcaster, ever.

Something I heard one of his friends say on his farewell show that blew
me away. When Grant was at his peak in the mid 70's on WMCA, he had a
rating of 24.6 in his best book. That means about one of every 4 radios
was tuned to his show. Thats unheard of today. Stern is the "King of
all Radio" doing 8's and 9's. And radio was much bigger back then, in
the days before Cable TV, Satellite TV/radio, internet, etc.
