View Full Version : Foolproof way to clean a LCD TV?

My grandfather just bought a 40" LCD Sony TV. While installing it for him, it dawned on me that he probably doesn't know how to clean it. My grandmother was all set with the Windex and an old towel too, glad I stopped her.

For my laptop I use LCD wet naps and a polishing cloth but not sure if that would work for such a large surface area. Anyone have one of these new TVs and have an easy and foolproof way to keep it clean?

Buy an empty spray bottle and some isopropyl rubbing alcohol, try to get something around 90%. Fill the spray bottle just a little more than halfway with the rubbing alcohol, and then fill the rest with water. Now you have LCD cleaner.
Dip the whole thing in muriatic acid, then hit it with a sandblaster.

The only reason I said buy 90% rubbing alcohol is because I've heard 100% is hard to find, while you can easily get other concentrations at a supermarket.

Just because of this thread, while at Staples a couple days ago I bought some 2 part wipes for flatscreens and laptop screens. One wet, one dry.

I had been cleaning them with windex until now. I'll still clean the one at work with our glass cleaner spray. But I'll recomment we get the real cleaner there because just about everyone either has a laptop or flat screen monitor.
