I dont think they are more racist, its just that you get more people from areas that have more racism with a nationwide thing, plus you are allowed to say more now

I agree with the idea that they're trying to go with a bit.  When you drop the N word you get the song now.  You're part of the joke and I think it's making people who aren't racist to just call in with the joke more.And you do hear it WAAAAY more on Ron and Fez than O&A.  It's like Earth 2.

To their credit, I think R&F realized that the "rednecks" and ani difranco drops were encouraging racist behavior.  They seem to be playing it less lately, and in some cases, when a racist call gets through they just let it sit there like a big bomb rather than going with the bit in any way.

Glad to hear he's been ignoring that stupid shit more.  If he lets it die, it'll stop.  Kinda like the streakers at ball parks.  If you don't put them on TV there's less of a chance it will look good to people seeking cheap attention.  They put the TV cameras on the ground, to back to the booth and talk about something else until the cops kick the shit out of the person and remove them.

It was able to be both "un-PC" (to someone not familiar with the Ron and Fez context), but at the same time really helped bring the dialog along and brought up (I thought, at least) decent points from various perceptives. And, most of all, stay funny. ALL OF THAT SAID, maybe not all of the listeners are as up to speed on this, and I also can see Bobo's point that with at least some callers where the "bit" comes too easily, it may not really be that much of a bit under it all. It's funnier when Ron plays Randy or Ani when someone says renegged or nickel instead of actually calling in with racist comments. It just totally catches you off guard.

I think it also has to do with the phone screeners.  If they don't put the calls through to Ron and Fez they will not get on the air.  Plus depending on what the description is on the computer screen Ron does not have to punch up the call.

Its Bullshit, there just happens to be more White listeners then Black so of course Nigger is gonna be dropped alot on an uncensored talk show. Want to hear racist listen to Patrice O'Neal on O&A's show. Thats an insecure guy. N is dropped alot on R&F's show just because they know Earl will go with it.

[/quote]I always got the impression that it really does bug Earl - as far as the truckers go, none of the ones I've ever known have been racists, so I'd feel uncomfortable painting with that broad of a stroke with that - just as I am with "southerner" or "hillybilly." There is just as much overt racism (imo) in Boston, New York and Los Angeles as there is in Atlanta, Charlotte or Jacksonville. The two most racists cities I've ever seen are Eugene and Sacramento, both on the west coast - but I wouldn't want to paint all of the people in that area as that, because we also know Oregon and Northern California also have lots of hippy types too. It just seemed (to me) to be an area of extremes. And while a lot is made about DC being "Chocolate City with the Vanilla Suburbs," with 100s of thousands of Savadoreans, Sikhs, Ethiopians and Vietnamese mixed into an already diverse multi-cultural region, it's really so much more than just "black" and "white" around here.

Ron likes the bit.  And when I mean that he likes it, I don't mean that he enjoys hearing the N word.He could easily dump out of them and no one would know they got on the air, thus ending the bit in the long run.  I don't think i could ever bring myself to call in and drop the N word like that but I will tell you that I laugh like a drunk monkey when I hear white Earl call in.

Let's not forget that the roots of the Ron & Fez show are in the South.  Most (though not all) of the callers that use the N-Word have southern accents.
