Posting Tools and Mac problems

Since some of our esteemed members have suddenly been unable to post, I've reworked the posting tools.

If you are unable to post, or just choose not to use the tools, go into your preferences, and at the bottem set the posting tools to No. You may have to log out and log back in for the changes to take effect.

Now, anyone complaining about the posting tools will have moderators sent to their home for a Jay and Silent Bob style beat down.

I'm still running the antiquated OS 9 and not only haven't I had any problems posting, but I've never even seen these "posting tools."

They're enabled in my preferences, but there's nothing here.

I think the problem was with OSX 10.4.4.&nbsp; They would click submit to post and it would say the post was empty.&nbsp; I was able to replicate it on my laptop and was able to post using the old button from the laptop.<br />

So in other words, you only changed it when it became a problem for a staff member.

You know, this kinda fucking pisses me off. We were asking for MONTHS for an option like this, and all I got were insults, ignored and told I was a fucking baby. Staff and members alike complained the tools were slow, stupid and generally not needed.

Why couldn't this simple on/off option have been put in place back then? All of a sudden it's just dropped in after everyone's already grabbed their ankles and accepted the New Tool's throbbing member.

I'll say this -- it is a lot of work keeping this board up, and Jon's really the only one who can do the technical stuff.&nbsp; There is always something that needs to be tweaked or changed, and there are priorities set.&nbsp; The most pressing needs are handled first.&nbsp; Things like switching over the server, and fixing glitches that were making threads unreadable get top priority.&nbsp; The tools were a priority, but did not become a top priority&nbsp;until they made it impossible for some members (i.e. not just staff members) to post.&nbsp; It's not as if Jon was able to hit a switch to create the tools option -- I'm in the dark technically, but I'm pretty sure there was more to it than that. Jon keeps this place running, and that's pretty admirable, especially considering that all of us on the staff do this in our spare time and none of us draws a salary for our efforts.&nbsp;

<p>Sounds like the server switch and other board modifications had to happen first before this option could be added.&nbsp; Like Mikey said, Jon is the only staff member than can do these things or even comes close to understanding them compared to the rest of us.&nbsp; I'm willing to trust his judgement on this.&nbsp; And it's not like this has been his thing from the get-go.&nbsp; For better or for worse, it ended up being a problem he inherited, and he had to approach it as such.&nbsp; If the time taken meant that the solution could be ushered in this easily and stress-free, them I say hoooo-rah.&nbsp; Odds are it took time to figure out how to add this feature into the board seemlessly and without significant downtime or site errors.&nbsp; Yeah, I wish it could have happened sooner, but here it is now, and I'm impressed at how easily we can switch over.</p><p>Short of inventing a time machine, I have no idea what could be done to appease you on this issue.</p>

<p>And while it is true quite a few people, myself included, didn't like the tools when they showed up, there were plenty who had no problem with them.&nbsp; Yes, some of us were very vocal in our complaints, but the world doesn't revolve around us.&nbsp; For the most part, it wasn't a crippling problem, or anywhere close to being one.&nbsp; When it did become that severe, Jon stepped up and fixed it.&nbsp; Could it have happened sooner?&nbsp; Maybe.&nbsp; Like Missy said, Jon doesn't get paid for this, and seeing as it wasn't nearly as big a problem as you or I or others made it out to be for the bulk of the time since the new tools were put in place, I doubt it was too high on his priority list, especially with the other critical site upgrades needed between then and now.</p><p>Thanks, Jon.</p>

It's done, so why continue bitching?&nbsp; The site is run by non-paid volunteers, they get around to things when they can.&nbsp; If you want to make a difference, learn coldfusion and figure out fixes yourself, and tell them exactly how to do it.&nbsp; It's not like you pay for the website.&nbsp; The admins can do whatever the hell they want when it comes to programming.

It's still fucked up. When I try to edit a post the full tool set comes back if I've quoted someone, and all that's up for editing is their quoted area.
