View Full Version : Why No Cheerleaders In Baseball?
Reephdweller

What would stop a baseball franchise from replacing a tired mascott with a team of hit cheerleading chicks? A number of popular sports have cheerleaders, though not good ole' baseball. Is there a reason why not, or a rule about it or something?

I think one foul ball to the vulva would do away with that pretty quickly!

I bet if a team did it though, it would get a lot of noteriety and probably increased attendance.

Actually, I think attendence would fall.

Baseball probably has the most appeal to women of the 3 major sports. Football is very much a guy thing, Basketball an urban guy thing. But alot of women like and watch Baseball. Its a no contact, non violent and fairly graceful game. Plus its very traditional and family oriented. If you added cheerleaders, you'd lose alot of female fans, and I'd estimate they're around 1/4 to 1/3 of the total fan base.

It's a good idea. Too bad there isn't someone like Charlie Finley around any more.

One of the problems is the time between innings is fast and the players use the field. Also, where would they stand? The foul territory is in play during the game and there isn't enough room in the dug out. Maybe they could come out during the 7th inning stretch.

Most of the time they're not on the field but on top of the dugouts. And a shot to the vulva is really not that crazy a possibilty.

But baseball is such a slow moving game what would they have to cheer for exactly? A better question might be why are there no cheerleaders in hockey? Though again, where would you put them?

I think a lot more women watch football these days then you think. I'm not suggesting that baseball doesn't have that family appeal that other sports wish they had. Though lots of women watch football.

I don't see attendance at football nor basketball games being so low. So I doubt it would have a negative effect.

Plus it seemed to be a HUGE hit in the movie Baseketball!

Spread The Osirus...Reef on MySpaceRight now you could care less about me... but soon enough you will care, by the time I'm done

Football, hockey, basketball and soccer are all basically the same game, and the fans need to be reminded by the cheerleaders which one theyre watching.

baseball fans dont need any more reason to get into the game than the game itself.

Dude you are so wrong its unbelievable. One, baseball does have a "time limit" 9 tries. And you go back and forth with your tries. Just like the other sports.

Also, if thats all it takes for sports to be the same, Baseball and Cricket are EXACTLY the same. Except cricket really gives you alot of chances. If it didnt have a limit of some sort, it would never end.

Also, soccer never stops except half time. Football stops every few seconds. Hockey and basketball only for an infraction. The equiptment is different.

You are basically saying a ferrari and a geo are the same, when its not even close. They do similar things but in far, far different ways, ways that make saying they are the same just retarded

no, if its on ESPN, it must be a sport. It was mainly a joke.

I will say poker isnt a sport, niether is spelling or, to me, even hunting and fishing. Those are hobbies they show on TV. But it was to make a point.

And, theoretically, the avg NFL play takes 5 seconds, the play clock is 40, so you sit around watching nothing happen about 80-85% of the time in football. Technically

well cause baseball, its like 1 pitch, 90 seconds, then 3 pitches in 60 seconds, a hit here, its not a constant thing. In football, its constant play then about 30-35 seconds then a play, then about 30-35 seconds, and guys go in and out and there are more things to look for, cause more then just the one play happens. You can watch just the CB on an NFL play and see him do something. In baseball, watch the RF on a LF fly ball scratch his ass. Thats why it feels different.
The girls would get in the way when a ball went into foul territory. You'd have to put em on top of the dugouts or something. That would obstruct views.
baseball is America's game? Thats why football PISSES on baseball in terms of ratings and money making. Baseball is having nothing but problems because they cant control themselves, and no one wants to see a 4 hour game cause they changed 11 pitchers. I love baseball, but its unique because if they tried to make another game that boring, NO ONE would watch it.

no its just im having a discussion, and i think its serious, then i realize the person didnt read half of what i said. I already said I love baseball, but it can be boring.

The only real similarity between football, hockey, and what not is that they have constant action. Nothing else is really that close. You can make 3 broad statements and make them the same.

Baseball the object is to score more then the other team, with the limited number of chances you have to score. The rest of the time you spend trying to stop other teams from scoring.

I just described EVERY sport

Where your wrong Snoogans
is about the time limit. An NFL game is 60 minutes, maybe with a 15
minute overtime. Baseball you have to record 27 outs, and those 27 outs
can take 2,3,4 hours or more. Then throw in extra innings and you could
be there literally all night and into the next day.

thats why i typed it as "time limit". Regardless of the length, baseball does have a limit. 9 tries each. Sometimes it takes longer, sometimes its faster. Football is 60 minutes, sometimes its 80 plays, sometimes its 40, but they all have a limited oppurtunity to do what you have to do. Thats how i originally said it.

Golf hurts, and even my dad and most golfers I've talked to agree with me, because a proper golf swing is NOT a natural position for the body to be in, at any point. You're putting tremendous strain on your joints, muscles and points by twisting and contorting yourself in ways the simply does not go doing ANYTHING else in life. Yes, you will be sore playing a full round of golf. But in terms of all around physical fitness, effort and stamina? Baseball trumps golf a thousand times over. And hell, if you wanna argue that the pain is worse ing old because of the fucked up things you're doing to your body just to hit the damn ball, I submit being a baseball pitcher. Yeah, that's where you'll find the origins of the "fat baseball player" joke, but the torture those guys put their upper bodies through to just throw the damn ball is inhuman. Like gold, our bodies are not meant in everyday life to bend those ways on a regular basis.

I played most of my golf games in 90+ degree weather, and I'll take that any day before having to play as a hard-swinging shortstop or CFer any day of the week. Shit, and how about being a CATCHER? That's fucking brutal...

It's a constant. When people all around the world think of a sport to equate to America, it IS baseball, hands down. Football loses that race right there because of how retarded the name sounds to anyone outside of our borders. Baseball IS America's sport. Maybe not in ratings or money at the moment, but in symbolism? Nothing even comes close. this debate is also hard, because skill levels matter. The better you are at golf, the less you do, the opposite with baseball. Ive played, at some point, every position on the baseball field. With the exception of catcher, which i already gave you, tell me when you have to run or walk or do that much activity. IM not sayin 15 minutes of baseball is as easy as 15 minutes of golf, but id rather, from a physical sense, take 3 AB's and throw 115 pitches long before ill walk 4 miles and swing a bottom heavy object around 110 times. Thats me, ive done them, and IM more sore from golf. No matter what you say, NOTHING will change that.

i agree, finally. But not for why most do. The main reason is saftey. You cant sit them in the dugout, so they would be getting picked off left and right. the extra female fan point is good too. I dont, however, see baseball as being a traditional game. Traditional games dont change the rules to try to change the type of game played. Traditional gamesdont really change. Id say most of the american sports are not traditional, and thats a good thing.

And anyone who wants to paint baseball and traditional and CLASSY, are you nuts. They basically openly let people juice, pretty much encouraging it by rules changes and not policing it, catering to power power power. Then they tried to dodge congress like it was voss' kid. The people who run the game of baseball are just as big of criminals as every other sport. You cant use their "class" as a reason not to have cheerleaders
