I see all the plasma/flat/projection options out there. you can get some pretty good deals. here is what i'm looking for and any suggestions/comments would be great:

again not much more then $2500...want at least 36 inch...which company has the best products...do i go plasma/flat/projection/etc....

for the money you wanna spend, you should just go real big with like a non HD tv, otherwise if you went with a good plasma or LCD it wouldnt be that bi for 2500

Plasmas and lcds are the best quality picture and the sleekest sets, they're also the priciest and unfortunately plasma loses image quality over the years as the gas breaks down (no cheap fix for this yet).

Projection tvs fall into two types, front and rear. front projection are the big sets that most people associate with big screen tv, huge bases and largest over all, but they do come in hd now and aren't nearly as expensive as plasma/lcd for their size. rear projection are those nifty boxes that hang from the ceiling, they're a pretty penny for the nice hd ones and also require a big wall space to hang a screen.

crt is typical joe tv, cheapest, not the prettiest but the most conventional.

pretty much everything is flat screen now. personally I'd like to get a 30something inch lcd in the next couple years.

another consideration is the quality of hd you want; resolutions differ and if you want super sharp progressive scan over interlaced you're gonna be paying a bit more

I highly recommed the Samsung DLP (Digital Light Projection) television, which I have now. I think they may be going for $2500 or less now. While it's a rear projection television, it's about half as deep as a regular projection televion. It's flat screen, and has a great high definition picture. It does have a bulb that will blow out at some point, but it's easiliy replaceable. Right now, given the limitations on plasma and LCD, I think it's the best tv to get.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7074453&type=product&productCate goryId=cat15022&id=1110265592237

I agree with the DLP poster. They are really great.

Also look into RPLCD (rear project LCD) they are LCD front, but not as flat as a plasma screen. Great picture. around 2500 also.

It's gonna be BAM, I crush his little skull and I sit down and smoke a cigar for another 55 seconds. The next kid comes in, BAM I put my cigar out on him. I laugh and point at the other kids "Who's next chubby?"

The picture quality should be better than the flat panel LCDs you see. The bulb will need to be replaced periodically, but the picture quality is outstanding.

How does 50" for < $2500 sound?

I'm in the market for a tv as well and through my research I've found the troubles with plasma and LCD screnes to be over-hyped. New technology has all but erased the "gas break-down" with plasma and the LCD (non-projection) price keeps falling dramatically since they're much easier to make now. The best out there right now seem to be the Pioneer Elite, Fujitsu, and Ronco. Harveys is the only company that carries the Ronco, but the others are found everywhere.

Avoid the plasmas. Make sure that you are getting full HDTV -- not EDTV. Some of the sets that have prices that look too good to be true are Enhanced Definition TV. They'll display HD signals but not at the full quality. Don't bother with non-HDTV if you're spending the money, you'll regret it in a couple of years.

Samsung is always a good mix of quality and price - they make most of the components for everyone else anyway. Most of the LCD computer monitors and flat panel tvs are built around Samsung panels. As far as I know, Sony uses Samsung panels in their products as well.

PaulF is right about not messing with spending that much on non-HDTV. We're only a year or two away from all broadcasts being digital. If you don't have HDTV you'll have to spring for a converter box.
