One of my dorky hobbies is online racing and recently I started playing a game which allows you to create your own personal skins for your car. All racers online have these skins stored on a central server so each driver see's everyone else's unique car. Given I had a couple hours to burn I'd figure I'd try to make an XM skin given Fluffernutter's Ron and Fez wallpaper. Just so Fluff knows, noone else can use the artwork from the online server.

Making the skin was actually easy given I had Fluff's artwork to work with.

This is what I came up with for the Fiat Punto class:

Cool, thanks for the props.

This game is Live for Speed. Its developed by a couple of dedicated racing sim fans and actually is better than 99% of the racing games out there. There is a free demo (which lets you race these Punto's online), the site is www.liveforspeed.net.

The number is 87 which is a dervitive of the number I was assigned by the SCCA when I rallied a few years back (872). When I got into karting (at Raceway park :)) I choose 87 as my number so I've kinda stuck with it. In game you can have your license plate read whatever you want (these pics are from a free car viewer), in game my license plate is XM202 of course.

If I could modify the 3D wireframes I could add an XM antenna :). But thats over my head.

That was a great idea to add the Fez Posse sticker on there. I made a couple of simple changes with that in mind. This will be the last of my bandwidth hogging ;).

While a graduate a student, my roomate and I bought a rally prepped 85 VW Golf together. We paid 4k for it which was a good deal considering that it was fully prepped. You can actually buy a used prepped car for around 5 to 6k and be competitive. The major costs in rally are the entrance fees and upkeep on the car. Typical entry fees will be around 300-500 dollars and will usually require a hotel stay since the events are all over the northeast. We also had to rent a Uhaul with a trailer to be ready to tow the car home in case we crashed out. We would drive to the events in the rally car (they have to be street legal..our's was legal except for that pesky NJ state emissions inspection) and then tow it home on a UHaul trailer. Total I think we spent around $1000 per event (which was usually a two day event) when everything was included. If you have your own tow vehicle and dont mind roughing it a bit you can save a bunch though. My partner wrote all our stories on our old website: www.2097Racing.50megs.com. One thing about rally is it really helps to have a friend to go in with. You will need a codriver anyway so its good to have someone you trust. A good site with info and forums is www.specialstage.com.

Once my roomate graduated we sold the car (for 5k) and I went and bought a 100cc kart to race at Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ.

We were never very fast but we did finish every event we raced in (one was the national Maine Forest Pro Rally..that was incredible).

We also had the coolest "feature" of any rally car. You can hear it in this movie clip:

The white Golf is our car with me driving.

Rally is the most amazing thing I have ever done. Driving as fast as you can through a closed forest road (and through sections of a small town as in the NY Irish Hills Rally) is an experience thats tough to describe. The night stages are especially rough, mostly mentally too. Once I finally get a job, I'll be buying another car for sure.

One thing you might look into is Rally Crosses. Those are similar to autocrosses (a circuit is created with cones on an empty parking lot) except they are performed on dirt lots and will resemble real roads with elevation changes and a clearly marked path to drive on. There are some in upstate NY a couple hours north of Jersey. If your car is in decent shape you should be fine. I've only seen a couple of broken radiators and only one car roll .

I actually stepped out of sim racing for a couple years due to an MMO addiction. But now I'm back. When I left I was playing Grand Prix Legends, EA's F1C, the GT2002 mod for F12002, and other mods. A few weeks back when I got interested in racing sims again I looked into Simbin's GTR and rfactor but went with LFS for the great online play. I'll have to check out rfactor and see if there is a demo. I troll RSC (racesimcentral) in addition to this forum .

What class did you run at RP? I raced in the Sr. Sportsman (4 hole can) class. I wasnt really a regular but I raced in the 02 and 03 seasons there; in fact I'm selling my kart and all equipment in preparation for a move (and the purchase of another rally car).

Yeah, the horn was great and my partner who lives out west (and is still rallying) has the horn now. It seemed like a no brainer to get one when it dawned on me while being a spectator myself. I wish I had in-car video from Maine where spectators were lined up on both sides of the road. When we hit the horn people used to go nuts. It was awesome.

Just chiming in here since Eddie PM'ed me about getting full size
graphics. I am impressed, well honestly floored as shit that someone
wanted to use something I drew. I guess my stuff is going over. Well,
it's Ron and Fez going over and I just doodle them. I look forward to
seeing the real life version. I could even do up some custom graphics.
Maybe shirts!
