Well it seems money makes the world go round...

I had a paying client who needed a message board. I provided him with my software and he requested a series of tweaks which have been installed on this messageboard.

1) Member avatars. You can now upload your own avatar, instead of user title avatars set by the mod. Follow the instructions and you will be fine. Avatars are 120 x 200 MAX. Anything taller or wider will be restricted. 35K upload limit on the file as well

2) Edit post titles. Admins and the original poster can now edit the post titles of thier threads.

3) Graphics. For the time being, the icons are nice and fancy. Up to Jon to keep em. I don't care either way. I didn't do them.

4) Signature and post are now separated. From now on, all quoted messages will reflect the body of the post itself, and not the signature. This is not retroactive, meaning messages posted prior to the date and time of this topic will still show up in the quoted reply.

5) Updated preferences page, more slick.

I think that's it. I might have missed some.

Enjoy.

NICE! Just two things.

1. When you guys updated the board this time, the error that popped up said that we were IP banned. That was disconcerting.

2. Only complaint I have, and a minor one, is that there isn't a reply button on top of every post, instead only on the top of the page. Otherwise, this rocks.

The board's new look is great, and I'm sure I'll appreciate the improvements once I get around to getting a new computer.

However...

I know I'm running a dinosaur (a 1999 iMac with OS 9), but is there anything I can do to be able to change my preferences? I can't change my sig pic or upload an avatar because my operating system is ancient.

If not, I'll deal with it for a short while.

Hottub
02-08-2006, 02:25 PM
OS 9 should not be an issue. Did you download the latest macromedia? What browser are you using? I am not a huge mac fan, but I do know some stuff. Check with Furie or WhistlePig.

Gvac
02-08-2006, 02:29 PM
One of the problems is that the last version of Flash available for OS 9 is version 7.

And I've tried with both Netscape and IE to change my preferences.

It's time for an upgrade anyway; I can't view anything made with Windows Media Player 9 or 10 because the last version made was, again, 7.

Try and get your hands on a copy of Tiger to hold you over. It was the best move I made. Hopefully your computer has enough Horsepower to support it. I had no problem with a G4, but yours may be a bit too old.

Yea, the Avatar uploading is a little shady and weird. My initial upload went well, but subsequent uploads have been very odd. I upload it and then hit that reload button that's provided and it looks like there's no avatar, but eventually my new one is by my posts. As long as it appears I guess I don't care but there is some weird shit going on there.

One thing Id like to see changed is the Reply format of either posts or IM's. Why is the text of the message you reply to at the top of the IM window or a post? So that if you need to space down, your reply is all centered? I think it would be better if when you hit Reply, the thing you reply to should automatically shift down so that your reply is on TOP. Does anyone agree?

I'm on a Mac and I use Camino as my browser. I've had no problem sending or receiving private messages.

I can't post if I use Safari, though.

I just downloaded the Camino browser and tried it and it still doesn't work (I get
the "we are experiencing a temporary site malfunction" error). And yes, PMs are
enabled in my preferences. So I don't know what the fuck. I give up. I'm not going
to mention it again.

I'm an Apple guy too, and I have no problems with PMs. I generally use Firefox and sometimes Netscape.

As others have stated, Safari is useless on this site for whatever reason.

So is anyone else unable to send or receive PM's?

Mind you, I can't do anything with such info since I know less than nothing about the tech stuff, but I'm curious to see whether or not there's a pattern to this type of error.

I can receive them. Can't send any out. Sucks when it's the only way to get bacl to the person.

I can send PMs if I turn on the advanced tools. The whole process of turning it on and off usually takes about 10-15 minutes to send a few sentences.

Also, please give us people who don't use the advanced tools our smilies back!
