My Primary Job is laying me off after 11 years and being a co-founder of the business. I have been offered a position at another job in the field at not nearly the $$ so one of my friends suggested I get my realtor's license and start selling homes.

I am honest and pretty much gregarious and affible. So she felt I would do well at it.

I just don't know really what working as a realtor ensues time wise/commitment wise.

Anyone do this as a career?

If you are an honest person, and don't want to corrupt that virtue... don't become a realtor.

I'm offering no apologies to realtors. I've been a salesman. Realtors (with some exceptions) are sales people, who have a good understanding of selling... and little regard for morals.

If you want proof of this... try typing the word "realtor", and using your spell check. It will tell you that the word must me spelled with a capital "R".

In the business I'm in, I deal with realtors all the time and I can tell you they are the lowest scum on Earth right next to used car salesmen!!!!

90% of realtors make less than $15,000 their first year.

I thought about becoming a realtor because I hate my current job. My mother's friend who is a realtor told me that it's best as a part time job. So my advice is to find another career you might enjoy and maybe become a realtor in your spare time I guess.

Realtor is a title like President or Chairman....that is why it is capitalized.

real estates sales person or real estate agent is not a title, just some one with a license like a driver. so it is not capitalized.

Actually, I believe that it's capitalized because it's a registered trademark.

-NickEye®

I'm actually thinking a bout getting me Realtor's liscence and then Broker's liscene to use as a second job.

My g/fs brother took the classes last spring, and he a self-proclaimed dunce, has made good money already doing it in his spare time.

He made like 16K showing 2 houses in Rockland County, one of which the guy took, to some coach on the Knicks.

I dont think I could ever do it fulltime but it seems interesting as a supplemental income.
