I know that I'm going to get trashed for this, but it's really driving me crazy and I need to know if I'm the only one.

I've been a huge fan of R&F since the WNEW days. I followed them
all around the timeslots over there and when they were fired, I was
heartbroken.

I started posting their WJFK files on my server early on before the
live show was being broadcast underground, and I listened to almost
every show.

During that time I liked O&A but always preffered R&F.

Now that they're both on sattelite, I feel like it's all changed dramatically.

Has O&A just gotten better or has R&F gone downhill.

And it's not Ron or Fez that I think are to blame. It's their show.

When Ron or Fez appear on the O&A show, it's radio gold.

When Ron holds court on their show, it's the absolute best radio.

I just don't get.

What is clear is that Fez's energy was down just before and since his heart attack. I understand.

I just feel that Ron needs more to work with and he's at his best working off others.

O&A have little Jimmy and now Bill Burr and Patrice O'Neal are both fighting for 3rd Mic.

R&F have Earl, East Side Dave, and pick your Intern. Really Lame IMHO.

I really love R&F. I just think that the tie in to O&A doesn't
work anymore. I know their shows are supposed to be different but not
this different.

During the WNEW days, there used to be a smooth transition from O&A
into R&F. Now it feels like they could be doing their show from a
different country. The energy goes wayy down immediately.

I love listening to Ronnie's voice but lately I'll be listening and realize I'm not even paying attention.

Sorry to offend anyone.

Am I the only one?

Thanks

I think the different energy and feel of the show can be contributed to two factors...

Audience and time-slot. The New York, DC, and Nationwide audiences, along with the time differences, had a major effect on the show. Some aspects are incredibly positive, some aspects not so much.

I'm firmly in the camp that I'd like to hear R&F at night, but who knows. maybe R&F prefer to be in mid-days.

I have no doubt that the time of the show affects the energy of the show. O&A's afternoon show had a much, much, MUCH different feel than the morning edition.

I can't speak to how the show was on WNEW or WJFK but I can tell you that Ron & Fez is my favorite radio show on XM and one of the few shows I make a point of listening to everyday in years. In fact, my favorite part of O&A is when Anthony busts out his Ronnie impression. That said, I don't think the original poster was being salacious, just stating a reasonable opinion.

well, yeah the show HAS changed since wnew. and honestly, i only listened sporatically when i had to download them at jfk, so now that theyre "back" (into my world), theres a new cast of characters that i dont know, and yeah i miss the old buddays of the show (not just the real ones but also th elikes of jan brady, iris, andre, etc...)....but....things change, thats life.

the constant is the genuine, natural talent of these two men. theyve adapted to alot of shit that went on around them, and survived, because of this amazing talent. they make it sound easy, but its not. we've all heard bad radio, and its never on ron and fez.

and if youre not listening to ron bennington when he speaks, no wonder youre missing the funny. again, he makes it sound easy, but intertwined into his simple conversation, is a bunch of mini references and quiet humor that make me laugh (yes, out loud) at the radio, something i dont normally do.

thats the main diff between o and a and r and f....listening to o and a, i'm constantly wondering what i'm missing in the studio. theres alot of sight gags going on on the radio there, including bare breasts, and who doesnt wanna see that? but..theyre always saying log on to the site later and youll see what we're laughing about. ....great. but i wanted to laugh now.

ron and fez give you the funny NOW. its not wacky in your face humor (most of the time), its humor you have to pay attention to. intelligent humor, that if youre not listening you may miss alot.

Talk about change, I used to listen to Ron and Fez when they had naked girls in the studio, people doing crazy stunts, celebrities popping in, musical parodies, etc...
The show has toned down a lot between the time I listened to them in Florida and now that they're on XM.
The humor is still there though and that's why I'm such a huge fan and will continue to be.

Ron & Fez is the ONLY radio show I ever wanted to, needed to listen to the entire
show EVERY day. Other shows are ok, but I have no problem shutting them off
when i get out of the car etc. There is just something about Ron & Fez, and I'm
proud to be in the "I get them" camp. If you don't get them, it's too bad because
you're missing alot.

miss "possibly Gay" fez. This fez doesn't deny it at all. That was a
very funny part of the show. His Fiance, liking the chicks, all gone
but not replaced.

It's one thing to replace bits but I really feel like they're just doing less.
I give you credit for stating your opinion so frankly on, of all places, a Ron and Fez fan site.

While it's true that the show isn't the same as it was back in the 'NEW or 'JFK days, it's not because of any lack of energy or creativity on Ron and Fez's part. Rather, I think it's because they're basically in a new time slot (I know they did middays for awhile at WNEW, but the "real" home for the show was nights) with a much larger audience. I think they realized that at first a large portion of listeners were going to be the diehard fans and they wanted to get a feel for the rest of their audience before delving right into their classic bits.

I think Fez's heart attack also played a large part in changing the feel of the show for a short time, but he seems to be as healthy as ever as of late and bursting with energy.

As the new audience grows and begins to "get the show" as WhistlePig stated, the show will really begin to take off.

And just one last note: I want you to know you're free to express your opinions here without fear that either Ron or Fez will ban you for saying something negative about their show.

For me, Ron and Fez on XM is the absolute best radio I've ever heard
from them. I've been listening since the WNEW days, and the XM
shows absolutely trump even the best shows on WNEW. Why? MORE Ron and Fez.

Too
much of the WNEW and WJFK shows were based on producers, callers, and
fans for the big shows. On XM, its basically just Ron and Fez w/
Earl. For example, I loved RnF in DC but there was a ton of
coasting. They did the caller story bits for prizes all the time,
and people like Crazy Jen often tied up the lines. Also, even
back on WNEW just about every night there was a comedy pyramid that
lasted a good 45 minutes.

On XM, not only do you get more
Ron and Fez on the show - you also get brilliant bits like "1000
Reasons to hate..." "Gumshoe Gang" "Ronaldo". The XM show
resembles the fastest hour in format a lot more, and we all loved that
becuase it was just the 2 boys by themselves, doin' what they do best.

I
really could go on and on...but the fact that Ron and Fez can now go an
hour and a half without commercial helps the flow of the show
tremendously. I felt that on JFK that once Ronnie started kicking
ass, they had to go to commercial.

For me, I'd MUCH rather hear
the boys than even the best Al Dukes/Billy Staples melt down.
Seriously, since on XM Ron has proven himself to be the funniest person
I've ever heard and noticably since recovering Fez is the funniest I've
ever heard him.

As the people evolve, so goes the show. Sure there are people longing for Iris, Andre, etc, but you can't do all of the same bits forever. You'll wind up like <strike>Henny Youngman.</strike> Dice.

We all know the gag that Fezzie peaked, but I think Ron is at the top of his game right now! He is killing! (Yes, I am in the "I get it" faction.)

Produceher, yes we all have different likes and dislikes.R&F and O&A are apples and oranges, which was less apparent to you as a young puppy listener, when it was all new to you and fresh like a cake when you make it.But if you BUY a Cake and Eat it,then the newness has worn off.The people changed, but realize what the personalities each bring to the table, all specialists with different backgrounds and comedy roots.R&F have been on xm 6 months.O&A OWN the channel as relative veterans, with top billing, and a bigger draw for a younger audience.Think of it in terms of a new first year ever edition of a car...still working out the bugs ,so the second year release is a better buy(better machine updated vs BETA).XM is a great situation to be in for R&F ,and where they belong.Lets say I'm more irritated by obvious things like THE PHONES and the replay schedule, which I believe will both get due attention soon.http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b44/jr333/BigBlackEarlBlackRockCoalition.jpgIf only Martian Catermen could get XM........

People that actually think the show is peaking right now. (Full Respect)

2. People that believe that the kinks still need some working out and the show will be unbelievable again. (Amen Bruddah)

3. People who believe that any criticism of R&F automatically makes you a non-fan and is interfering with the show and it's popularity because this is a fan-site. (Even More Respect)

I hope that, above all, Ron and Fez are successful on XM radio.

If everyone loves the new show and I'm just an idiot, than it's better than them being fired or being stuck in middays forever. (BTW - Opie mentioned that the full plan has not been implemented yet.)

Thanks for letting me air my thoughts and I'm gonna keep listening no matter what.

Peace.

I think the show is great these days but I also think its a very different show than the old WNEW days. The nationwide thing is a big part of it. When they were in NY, you would only get tri-state callers obviously, but the southern and midwest callers give the whole show a different feel. O and A have talked about something being in the works for Ron and Fez, whether this is a different time slot or their own channel who knows.
