Looks like terrorists attacked this Shiite mosque in Iraq. I imagine this will fan the fire of civil tension between the different sects of Islam. If al-Qaida is behind it, I imagine that they did it to make the Shiites blame us.

Link

Al-Rubaie blamed extremists represented by the al-Qaida terror network and Sunni militant group Ansar al-Sunnah for the explosion, which he told the Al Arabiya television aimed "to pull Iraq toward civil war."

Thousands of demonstrators gathered near the shrine, waving Iraqi flags, Shiite religious banners and copies of the Muslim holy book, Quran. Shiite leaders in Baghdad's Sadr City neighborhood called for demonstrations against the blast.

"This criminal act aims at igniting civil strife," said Mahmoud al-Samarie, a 28-year-old builder who was among the crowd in this city 60 miles north of Baghdad. "We demand an investigation so that the criminals who did this be punished. If the government fails to do so, then we will take up arms and chase the people behind this attack."

There's something to be said for splitting up a country like Iraq..."Iraq" as we know it today only because of arbritrary borders drawn by departing European colonialists, borders that threw together completely seperate tribes and ethnic groups.

well, the only fair thing to do is to give the profits to a neutral third party;..... like the US.

There was also an attempted attack today on an oil refinery in Saudi Arabia, and al-Quada claims responsibility. Both the attack on the mosque and the refinery are in heavy Shiite areas. They terrorists are attempting to cause instability in the area by inciting sectarian attacks. What do they hope to gain? They want to interfere with world commerce. Why? We must be doing something that is hurting them (the terrorists) and this is their attempt to draw attention away.

I guess its just that to me every political thread derails into an attack of anything conservative. I see very little outrage on this board of slanted garbage on the other end by liberal rags. And to be honest, the article you quoted didnt come up on the hotel computer im using. But if I posted outrage everytime the tabloids to the left printed something assinine, these threads would be twice as long.

I think Fox comes off as being even more absurd becuase they trumpet and beat us over the head as being "fair & balanced" when they're so clearly not.

While the slant of other news organizations is pretty obvious, I'll never understand the constant bashing of the BBC. Their reporting standards and quality and capabilities are so far beyond anyone else's in the world that to discount them as a news source is just flat-out ridiculous.

I don't post a link to all the stupid shit I see. I could post a fucking thesis on braindead conservative bloggers trying to blame the failure of this war on insufficient support from liberals.

But these Fox News graphics are just beyond stupid.

And if it seems like there's a lot of conservative bashing lately it's
because conservatives are in charge of everything and there's a whole
lot bad going on right now. Perhaps if conservatives took their own "personal respsonibility" rhetoric a little more seriously there would be less. But these Fox News graphics are more representative of conservative response: ridiculous spin and scapegoating.

And really, if you can find anything in a "liberal rag" that's as ridiculous as "civil war: is it good for Iraq?" and "civil war: is it made up by the media?" then by all means, please post it, because I'm dying to see it.

It's funny...as just a "normal" guy on the street, if I started randomly insisting that there was a massive media and business conspiracy to control our information just, well, because, people would think I was insane. Yet if you publish a book or have a TV or radio show or newspaper column or whatever, it's perfectly reasonable.

While I agree Civil war would be a catostrophe in Iraq lets stop throwing boques at the BBC. I didn't see much outrage on this board when half the BBC heirarchy had to resign after lying about that British weapons inspector. Or when CBS ran with a phoney story during the presidential campaign that had to be refuted by a dead man's widow. Yes, it is stupid to back a civil war in Iraq but this board is severely biased. All the news agencies have an agenda and are full of shit at some point.
