Lately, it seems as though EXTREMELY bizarre coincidences are happening to me. Things that simply can not be merely shrugged off with a "yeah...that happens" or even a "wow...that's amazing!". I'm talking crazy-go-nuts happenings. Beyond the type of stuff that happens on LOST. This shit is real.

Here is just ONE example of the type of thing that I'm talking aboot. (sorry if this is long) :

I listen to LOVELINE all the time. I was listening to an old episode from a year or two ago that I'd never heard before. The guest was Reverend Run from Run DMC. He was on the show to promote his (then) new solo record called DISTORTION. I really like the two songs they played so, I decided to buy the disc.

My friend and I hopped on the subway to go to the store to buy/order that disc. On the way there, we starting talking about our favorite Seinfeld episodes. I mentioned the one with Marlee Matlin and we started talking about Signing and that I love Sign Language. I'm fasicinated by it. I said this: "I don't know anyone who is deaf but, wouldn't it be cool if, one day, I was at a store or something and there was a deaf guy there who needed help and nobody at that store was able to assist him because they didn't Sign. And then, I would step in and translate for him. Wouldn't that be interesting?"

We thought nothing of it and then changed topics a million times.

I get to the store and head to the CD section. I see the sales associate a few feet away. He doesn't see me, his back is to me, and he's JUUUUST about to ask another customer if they need help finding anything.

That customer, as you probably guessed, turns to the employee and proceeds to Sign!!! He can't really communicate verbally, only through Sign Language. Obiviously, I was freaked! The sales guy turns to me (thinking me and the deaf guy were there together) and says "I'm sorry...I don't understand...can YOU translate?"

I was flipping the fuck out.

BUT THAT'S NOT THE MOST AMAZING PART!

The deaf guy found his partner/translator, talked to the associate, bought his video game and left. I was next, so the guy offers to help me. I told him, "let's just go to the computer and start doing a special order...you are NEVER gonna have this CD I am looking for." He says okay, and we walk to the computer. He opens a drawer, and takes out a book he needs to do the order, and closes the drawer. The force of the drawer closing knocked ONE cd off the top of his little computer kiosk.

DISTORTION by Rev Run.

I was visably shaken. The guy was like, "are you okay?!" and I said "I....don't.... know". I paid and walked out.

My buddy was seriously freaked. We were actually silent for a most of the trainride home.

This kinda thing has been happening to me very often lately. It's bizarre and, to be honest, I am not really enjoying it. It really is rather creepy.

Does this kind of thing happen to everyone? And when it does, does it occur in waves, like it is for me right now???

Thanks for reading my longest post ever. This is really on my mind.

start thinking about winning the lottery...

i'm not sure if it's coincidence but one night i'll catch 10 minutes of an original Star Trek rerun that i caught by changing channels. 6 months later i'll be flipping channels and catch the exact same 10 minutes of the exact same episode. inbetween that 6 months i don't ever catch any episode of the show...

this has happened to me on many occassions with various shows...

There has been many occasions when I will find an old cassette that I know has music on it in a drawer and I'll pop it in and it is exactly at the song I was thinking about.

One time my father, who lives 2o miles away was walking down a busy street in his town that I rarely walk on, when he saw a Costco card laying face down on the sidewalk.
He picked it up and it WAS MINE! I hadnt even known I lost it, and hadnt been on that street in 6 months!

I think deja vu is more like feeling like you did the exact same thing before and your living through it again.

Eerie coincidences like the one you described happen to me more
often than would seem possible, fezident. I'll think of a
song I haven't heard in 10 years, turn on the radio, and there it
is. Or I'll think of an old friend I haven't spoken to in a while
and the phone will ring with them on the line. It's downright
creepy.

I'm not sure I believe in the paranormal or anything like that,
but when those things occur I do start wondering if there's anything to
the "collective consciousness" school of thought.

I think you're thining too much of it. If you think about how many times something wasn't a coincidence, it's many more. The guy who worked there didn't live in the apartment next to you, your friend wasn't thinking about buying the same CD at the same time and you didn't happen to see Reverend Run on your way to the store.
Then again, those are some pretty weird things to be happening to you. You might want to carry a bible with you at all times

I mean, you're right...things like this DON'T happen all the time. Therefore, when the inexplicable DOES happen, it carries just a little more weight. No?

I mean, you're right...things like this DON'T happen all the time. Therefore, when the inexplicable DOES happen, it carries just a little more weight. No?

=

Oh man this is the best Q Ive sen in a long time, for me. I started studying coincedences when I ran across article after article on game theory, probability, the nature of randomness, and why weird shit happens. Or is it weird that weird shit happens?

Someone started studying sports runs, streaks; whether it ba a career, or part of a single game. They compared it to random events of the same probability, and often, what seem like a fantastic run is actually not only possible, or probable, but expected. For most; some streaks [DiMaggio's consecutive hitting record of, oh man please let it be 56] lie so far outside, so many standard deviations from the norm, they defy explanation.

Stop myself. OK, cant. So which are the random Heads or Tails scenarios?

HTHHTHTHTTHTHHTTHTHTH

TTTTHTHTHHTHTHTHHHHHT

They find that pure randomness has its patterns. The bottom one is, in many ways, more random then the top, because nature, in a 50/50 Heads/Tails scenario; doesnt give you a nice 'alternating every other time' as often as it give you runs of 4, 5, 6 even more Heads or Tails in a row. The longer the run, the less likely, but given a huge number of trials, runs occur. The casinos study this stuff ad nauseum.

Or this; how many people do you need in a group such that there is a 50/50 chance that two of them share the same birthday? With 365 days to choose from [ignoring leap stuff] one might think it ranges somewhere midway to that number, but the answer is, statistically, only 23 peeps.

Sorry for the long diatribe and I'm not shitting on what happened to you. I squarely sit in the 'weird unexplainable shit happens' camp. Just showing that it's a weird world of probability.

For me, things like that happen to me all the time. It gets to the point where for short periods of time I can predict insignificant things before they happen. I think it happens to a lot of people, its just a matter of noticing signs. I noticed that if I have a lot of distractions or deadlines ((for instance, when I'm in school)) it doesn't happen as much.
