IRON YOUR MAIL !?!?

I heard on a morning radio show, that if a person receives a suspicious letter, they can run a hot iron over the mail, and the HEAT will kill the bacteria and the spores....

I am not trying to start a rumor - I just want to know if the heat would actually kill the bacteria?

I would say yes - I think it would work

I heard this same thing Rooster, and I give it about a week before someone sets fire to themselves or their house b/c they try it.

LTROOSTER - Ironing your mail can get your iron very ill. Just open it yourself.

Anthrax, otherwise known as Bacillus anthracis (once sporulated) is very resistant to heat and cold. Ironing would probably not have any effect.

I hate when people over react to things. Has any citizens receved letters containing Anthrax? If you are in the media, or goverment you have the right to worry, but regular citizens CALM DOWN!

I heard you're supposed to throw water on it, then iron it. This will flatten it out and make it hard. It also deters any powder from flying around in the air. Call me crazy but if I opened a package with a powdery substance inside, I'm running faster than Flo Jo.
