OK...here me out first.  I was one of the very first people on this board under a name I have long since forgotten, before it was even ronfez.net.I have many friends here and that includes Ron and Fez who surprising enough to some of you I do stay in relatively close contact to about a number of things.That being, said, I give my pedigree to ask this question.  We have a lot of new people, other message boards, different way of doing things, listening threads etc, one thing for sure is the board is not the same as when it started, it evolves.Here is my question.In your opinion, Has this board jumped the shark?  and if so when and why?now first, let me say that by asking that question it does not mean I do one way or another, my feelings will remain with me, since I asked the question.I think its a fair one and some interesting points might come out of it.  lets not bash, of course some of you will, but lets be intelligent <img src="http://www.ronfez.net/messageboard/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/wacko.gif" border="0" />of course if bobby or Jon or Mikey find this inappropriate, please remove.....i understand.  I don't think this is a rue breaker but c'mon its interestingwhos goin first?

I'd love to see an explanation of how a message board can "jump the shark" <img border="0" src="http://www.ronfez.net/messageboard/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/huh.gif" />As with any good messageboard, it was a common interest (in this case Ron and Fez) that brought us here, but its the community that keeps the board going. I read that messageboards completely refresh their users once every 7 years. Its true.

i haven't been here from the very beginning, maybe for over 4 years now and i would say "the shark has not been jumped"...sure there have been high and low points, especially when the boys went to WJFK, alot of people were pretty bummed.  the move to satellite was a big shot in the arm along with them being back in the big city. it's nothing against the fine people "from the washington dc area" who became a big part of the fan base when they went down there.  with the move to satellite the boys became available to everyone.there is always great new posters joining up and it's a great mix of rookies, short timers, and veterans, from pretty much all over the place. from checking profiles you can notice the increase in members that are from different parts of the country.sure there may be a few too many rednecks for my city ass <img src="http://www.ronfez.net/messageboard/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/tongue.gif" border="0" />   i like bustin on them a little bit as long as Ron and Fez are around this board will always be a HAPPENING place...

I will try and explain how in my opinion a message board can jump the shark. and once again, yes I have been here awhile, so it is different for the new guys...understood...and this is in no way a reflection on the show or Ron and Fez.  anyone who knows me or even doesn't would be silly to think that OK how a board can jump the shark IMO  more and more threads start out on topic, than end up in 1, 2 or 3 guys arguing, someone getting warned and getting very repetitious. many many threads restarted all over again  a listening thread for a 4 hour show  is 3 pages long good natured ribbing doesn't seem to be tolerated among listeners on the boards anymore. there has never been a lot of talk on the board about the actual show...but ow there are personal threads about the guys and otherslets actually bring talk about the show back....mayde start some pyramids or stuff we used to do on the show here...so the regulars can show their chops and all the newbies can get the feel and hang of a pyramid, a story about stuff in your life....that is interesting.where did all the chicks go from here?look in all the forums....ther is a lot of funny, interesting things there, not just in everything Ron and FezJoin the board and post....don't lurk...jump in get wetsure things have changed on the show, we used to do stuff off the air that cant be spoke of, but all my recruits came from right here....and the Black Ops have maintained their secret identities.no stupid shit with other boardssuggestions on making the board more fun. ideas topics....anythingwe have too many of the same people posting all the time.....and than people yell at them for posting all the time....makes no sense..... lets have fun.....it isn't heard...and any inside shit is definitely loved...so let the gossip, speculation and rumors fly  OK, these are just a few off the top o f my head and all may not apply or be good....but lets just give it a shot favorite bits was great, favorite topics was great....its there we gotta keep bringing it up.....best product name was ecsellent..... your getting it Back to Fiona Staplesdo this for me, cause I have secrets!!!!

the board has never been the same since the departure of POOTERTOOT & Erin Moran.I first discovered this board when Ron and Fez were on overnights on WJFK years ago. I'd say the vibe is different. Can the board (or anything else) jump a shark but not the shark that leads to it's decline?  Maybe it did, but like Henry Winkler moving on to a somewhat successful movie career, the board changed in resonse to the show going satelite.

Ok, comments lile that, totally not unexpected and its cool. This has absolutely nothing to do with any personal bitternes on my side, not even close. My circumstances have changeddrastically , so even If I chose to accept an offer, I couldnt....due to other things which are not important.  bottom line is, I couldn't work on the show now if wicki dropped a dump truclk oadof cash in my driveway.  So please do not think its about me and my not bing with the show, it isnt,ieven discussed it with a person in high laces on the baord (geneflect) and he thought it was cool and not sour grapes...cause not intended to be but you can not have taste and not enjoy the Xmas Cd. thats ok

Its spontaneous which adds to the effect. ..just like the show.

Billy, quite honestly, I think this is a really stupid question to ask.  And that's not an attack on you, it's quite simple the fact that it boils down to this:  Messageboards can't jump the shark, because the boards are only as good as the people who participate and adminstrate/mod it. Even when good posters and veterans leave, (Ikeaboy, Girl Germs, etc.) there are others who fill the gaps.  Most of the people who mod the boards are level-headed, good people with the board and COMMUNITY'S best interest at heart.  Although the jury is still out on Mojo. Quite honestly, I think this is the best site related to all things 202, because - and this is key - RF.net has never taken itself quite as seriously as places like Wackbag, OA.net, OA.com, or, recently, FBA. This question MAY have been relevant back when the show was in DC and there was an obvious dip in participation, but I think as the show grows on XM, so will participation on the board. (And no, that's not a dig on DC, but I think that even the admins and mods can admit that the board did decline in use while the show was exclusively on JFK and not streaming)

Matty  Its OK...I don't consider it an attack, but not surprised you don't agree with me. It was kind of a tough ca...  And you know what, its doing exactly what I had hoped for, a lively, thought out interesting discussion. Is it possible for a message board to jump the shark?  Who the hell knows.  do I think so.....yes.  Did I say ronfez.net did....nothabebeing said, in all probability, I believe anything is possible to 'jump the shark'.  In my determination means you enjoyed it more before, and it really doesn't have to be a specific moment. Can a novel jump the shark?  I think so. Many possible ways.We all know TV shows jumped the shark, couldn't a single episode also do it OK, I forgot my point.  All I am saying is, anything that you read, listen to, enjoy do, can at some time be not be as good as it was in the past.  Is it subjective?  Of course so Look at the Jump the shark page and all the different opinions. In reality, this is what this was meant to do.(plus I asked a board biggie beforehand if it was OK to post and he thought was actually a good idea)so....thats it in a nutshell....aagree or disagree.....and it makes this question and thread viable

Fuck.  I just made a point by point analysis of all of Billy's ways that a board can jump the shark, and came to the conclusion that Billy's perception is off on most of them  <img src="http://www.ronfez.net/messageboard/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/tongue.gif" border="0" />, and the board has not jumped the shark.  However, once I posted it, I got that thing where the quoted post shows up, but none of the reply.  Stupid board glitch!  I paged back, and everything I typed is gone, too.  How disheartening.  If I'm up for it, I'll give it a try again later.

Hell, I can't speak to if the board's jumped the shark or not. But I will say as a new poster that it can be a bit intimidating. I've only been listening to R&F since they came to XM, but I've been a pretty faithful listener and think I'm getting a feel for the older bits that have carried over to XM. Since I like the show so much, I came over here to see if the enjoyment could be expanded by interacting with others of like minds, or no-minds as the case may be. Hopefully, it will be a fun place to goof off.

I think that might be why some of the newer guys are having a problem with ESD. We were lovin' the flow of R&F and now that's changed. Plus, when we brought it up here, we got some heat from the old-timers. But I'm a big boy and can take the heat and plan on being here for the duration..............hope y'all don't mind.

Oh and Eli Snow - how goes your quest against the Four. I missed the last couple of issues.

As stated earlier, the site evolves based on the users.  We ebb and flow.  And I completely agree that RF.Net was definitely at a lull during the DC era, but that's because most of us are NY based and either couldn't hear the show, couldn't contribute to the show, etc.  Now, we're hosting events for them again, we're apart of the show again, etc.  I don't have the old logs, but I'd say we're slowly making our way back up to the heights of the WNEW days, and have things planned to help us work our way back up. Gvac, mikey put you at Ralph and you're just gonna have to deal with it. <img border="0" src="http://www.ronfez.net/messageboard/tiny_mce/plugins/emotions/images/tongue.gif" />And what about Bobby Pants, mikey?  He was an early admin as well.  As was Dan from Hoboken.

Once a Wnew member here and forgot it after they left (I once called in as Mickey Mouse on Halloween. and Staples let me through) Returned once back on XM. Not Jumped the Shark at all. Just a bit different. Perchance the new ones are a bit more discerning
