Yeowch! I've got the biggest hemorrhoid I've ever had in my life and it fucking
hurts!! I hurts to sit, it hurts to stand, it hurts to walk...and Preparation H isn't
helping at all! Plus there is no sympathy. I tell my husband and he can't help but
laugh. Has anyone else suffered this butt trouble and have any remedies? How
long do I have to wait for this fucker to shrink? It's like having a third appendage.

I won't make light of your situation, just a question? What causes those things and what are they?

When you have a bowel movement, the hemorrhoids act like cushions to protect the anus from the stool passing through it. When you're done with your bowel movement, the hemorrhoidal tissue helps to seal the anus.

Because the American diet contains many refined foods, we often don't get enough fiber. As a result, people tend to have small hard bowel movements, strain and spend too much time on the toilet. Over time, the hemorrhoidal tissue enlarges and slips out the anus. When the hemorrhoidal tissue becomes large enough, it causes problems such as bleeding or discomfort.

Part of the confusion about hemorrhoids from patients and some physician's results from terminology (how we define our terms.) A small amount of hemorrhoidal tissue is normal and is present at birth. When this tissue becomes excessively large or causes symptoms, people call this "hemorrhoids."

People are conditioned from advertising and discussions with friends and family that any anal complaint is caused by "hemorrhoids." This is why patients who come to the doctor with an anal problem almost always complain of "hemorrhoids."

Enlarged hemorrhoidal tissue mainly causes bleeding or discomfort. Anal itching, severe pain or discharge is usually caused by other anal conditions.

http://www.ochsner.org/crs/hemorrhoids.html#what

My only advice is to make sure it's just a hemorrhoid, WhistlePig.

A
good buddy of mine had excruciating pain there a few years ago and was
wondering why the Prep H wasn't helping. Turned out he had an
abscess and required surgery.

Hang in there, and I'll refrain from making the usual "pain in the ass" jokes.

Thanks for the advice Gvac! I was constipated for a few days and had an
excessively big poop yesterday so I'm pretty sure it's a hemorrhoid--but if it hasn't
shrunk by tomorrow I'll swallow my pride and go to the doctor.

In all honesty, for quick relief, you might want to try a wet ice cube rubbed gently against it to ease the pain and swelling. I had the IRC treatment and it really wasnt that bad, except the initial exam. IRC is Infra Red Coagulation, basically, they hold an intense light to the blood supply of the hemmoroid and the light kills the blood vescles that feed the hemmoroid and they shrink due to lack of blood.
Ive used the ice and it does work, but make sure its wet, and you lay on your side with disposable absobant material below you to catch the water as it melts.
