Blowhard's Immigration phone call-4/10/06 [Archive]

I know there's topics on immigration and a listening thread open, but I wanted to address just the phone call in a seperate thread.  I do it because I like Blowhard and I think he didn't help his cause at all today.Blowhard, you can't act like that on the air.  We like you on the show because you're outspoken and unafraid to share your point of view...but...you cannot act like that on the phone.  It was a DISCUSSION on immigration and you just shouted down everyone, including the hosts, until you had to be put on hold.  You weren't discussing anything, you were stepping on everyone's lines and shouting callers down.  Callers got shouted over.  Silera got shouted over.  Ron got shouted over.  Fez got shouted over.  I don't know Ron personally but having been a listener this long, he sounded honestly annoyed at you on the phone.The one who shouts the loudest doesn't win the argument Blowhard.  Just some constructive criticism, but you annoyed me today and I don't want to see your behavior keep you out of future discussions as I fear it may do. Please use this thread to discuss your opinions of the call, not the substance of it.  There's a immigration thread being topped all night elsewhere.

I'm listening to it right now. I normally like Blowhard, but damn... he made this call unsustainable! The way he talked over everyone was terrible. There was just no stopping him.

I'm not going to knock blow hard, but I will say I pretty much disagreed with him completely today. I think Ron said it best today when he brought up that the companies are at fault for hiring the illegal workers. You really can't blame someone who travels hundreds of miles to make a bull shit wage doing a shitty job. They just want some work. The only thing that gets on my nervers is when I hear about illegals wanting the same benefits as us tax payers. In state tuition? If you want the benefits then pay some taxes. Do not even try to convince me that day laborers are filling out 1040s at the end of the year. Those guys get cash under the table, and thats the end of it.

I agree with Moe. While Blowhard may have had a valid argument for his opinions and some of the facts regarding todays immigration issue, I think it was all lost on the way in which Blowhard handled the call and it seemed pretty clear to me that Ron was getting annoyed by his antics as well. Sure we all get passionate at times over various political issues, though we need to try and stay calm about it and discuss our arguments in a rational manner. I felt that Silera and some others who were calling in to counter his viewpoint were just shouted down and made it harder to consider his views and essentially his arguments. While I don't share his views on immigration I am interested in discussions on finding ways to improve our border security, however everything he was saying on the subject got lost on me.

The call's on replay right now, and sorry, but I'm really not hearing what you guys heard.It seems to me Ronnie started in with a "Let other people talk, Blowhard" Bit, but he wasn't actually trying to talk over anybody until later in the call after Ron & Fez had been cutting him off and shouting him down first and playing intentionally obtuse to his points.I think the most Blowhard's guilty of is being "Not-Going-With-The-Bit Guy."CC

I think it was exactly the same as any other time the Blow Hard has called in (apart from the recent months when he has been a little subdued) I think Ron took the call in a different direction which untimately made the blow hard more entertaining.

Listening to the call, you can hear the bit being taken to an extreme.  cutting the sound on Mr. Blowhard,maybe the volume on his phone was turned down or maybe the fiber did not have time to regulate Mr Blowhard properly.  I still like the times that Blowhard calls in and debates. they are really good radio eliciting emotions and reactions.

For those of you that think the Blowhard came out swinging...You are wrong. He definitely was not  "won't go with the bit guy". If anything he helped Ron and Fez on their mission...Make the Blowhard get angry and then play up to all the calls that came in. Perhaps you should all listen to the call again and see what you think this time. I think you might be surprised.Blowhard forever.
