This time the market's driving up the price over fears about Iran, and the repercussions of a strike againsty their nuke facility. They threatened to not only stop exports from their country, but to blockade other countries exports which travel through their area. Not pretty.

i heard some fucking analyst the other day say the prices are going up due to 'uncertainty' in the middle east.

well how about every fucking 'late spring or just before summer rolls around' for as long as i can remember?

another fucking analyst i heard the other day said "the market doesn't care about oil prices, ONLY interest rates" then you see this headline today
Stocks post third down day in four * /> Major gauges stumble on a new round of pricing pressure concerns, led by Iran, oil, gold and rates. * />
these analyst should just SHUT THE FUCK UP!

peace be with you

and also with you

I filled my gas tank today and it cost me $40 bucks! It sure does bite.

I am going to have to get rid of my truck, which I use for work and side jobs. It just isnt worth it anymore. I would rather not make the extra $$$ that I am making than pay $100.00 in gas over the coarse of the week. I think I will get a VW bug convert. or the new GTi.
Looking past my needs, with Iran flexing its muscles, I think we are all in trouble.

I sold my jeep and got a volvo station wagon at the end of last summer.
Over the winter, driving up to the adirondacks instead of it taking 3 1/2
tanks of gas to get there and back, it took me only about 2.25. With a tank
of gas costing around $45-50, that's pretty good given that I was driving up
nearly ever weekend. Now, I can also make it to New Paltz and back nearly
twice on a tank of gas, instead of once... awesome!

NEW PALTZ? do you do the cooking school up there?
Starting on Monday I will walking 1 mile to the train, and taking the subway to and from work. I hate the train. It smells and take 2x as long to get home. But the $$$ for gas is killing me more. After the wedding in Sept. I am tossing the truck for sure.

Exxon doesn't set the price of oil. The commodities market does

if this is the case then what did this guy have to do with the success of the company or the profits made from the rise in the price of oil and why does he deserve such a big payout?

it's like all the mutual fund managers during the bubble burst of 2000. the funds lost trillions of dollars and they did nothing about it. it rang clear to me that these 7 figure salary earners have little to do with the success of a fund or the failure of a fund.

Put it in some context, Funk. He runs a multi BILLION dollar company. A big CEO package might represent a tenth of one percent of the sales they garnered under his leadership. Think of it like a salesperson, you bring in business, you get a piece of it. Same concept.

Also, often these guys take stock options throughout their career, which makes sense for both them and the firm tax-wise. It also gives a CEO the incentive to grow the stock price, which makes the shareholders happy. Then when they retire, they cash it out all at once, so a multi million dollar package actually accrued over the tenure of his career. Which in some cases is 20, 30, 40+ years.

I agree that when companies do poorly and CEO's cash out big, it looks bad. Sometimes a company offers some hotshot CEO a big deal to turn around their business (which is already doing poorly), and if they dont succeed they still have to pay out. Sort of like what happens with free agents in baseball. If they dont hit, you still have to pay them.

As far as all the people who aren't in the market, I loved the idea of privatizing Social Security. Which would have given everyone a stake in the system. But it failed, and thats another discussion.

Peace bro.

I hope that he takes some of that money and gets that face fixed. He could pass for James Bradey, the guy that got shot alongside of Reagan, not a long last Brady Bunch relative.
