Ask Mikeyboy. He's a real lawyer. As opposed to me (a fake one). There's a lot of paperwork to file with one state agency or another.

I think your tax ID winds up being your SS#...but I'll ask my cousin to call you, I think he's done it twice.

It's very easy; there are even online services that will fill out the forms for you. I'm not sure how much they charge now, but I incorporated eight years ago for around $200.

They'll incorporate you here

Isn't incorporating a little hardcore? Don't you need to issue stock and things like that? I think you can be a sole propriotor, Limited Partnership, or something. Less logitics involved.

LLC is limited liability. You put out stocks when you are having an IPO
I am a lawyer but you can set up an LLC by just contacting a company called Blumberg and they will walk you through it and file al appropriate papers. Process is very simple and can be completed in a matter of days. Either NY or NJ entity. This is how I made my firm an LLC If you want you can contact me (or post a way for me to contact you if my information is not accessible) and I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have. Just one thing - you can't (or shouldn't) get your tax ID # until entity formation is complete.

I incorporated in NY and I will say don't go thru any agency, you can easily fill out the forms yourself for much cheaper.

Oh, and just remembered the best resource for a small biz on the web, score.org

Stock is unecessary because an LLC is a Limited Liability Company - it gives the benefit of a corporation without the headaches. Actually Snoogans email me or talk to your accountant before getting your tax ID # because there is one question that will make your tax issues much easier (taxing you only - not at company level and then taxing you again).

What if I incorporate in a state but then do business out of the state, and if it was internet, would that be considered in my state regardless of where its purchased from?
If you had a product, how would you go about getting said product packaged (put in boxes with design, instructions, styrofoam, and whatnot like most products can be found nowadays)
