I wanted to throw in my two cents about this issue (haha -- lame attempt at humor):

We still need the penny. If we get rid of it, rounding up will cause a lot of problems. For example, the cost of postage stamps, gasoline, etc. will have to go up in 5 cent increments. This could be debilitating to big businesses that rely on those things in bulk.

If they want to keep the penny, and it costs 1.4 cents to make one... why not just change the value of the penny to 2 cents?

Of course, if they did, you'd have to offer up twice the info when someone gives you a penny for your thoughts.
