<p>seriously, this has been killing me. sure, we all love to tool on dave but penultimate doesn't mean &quot;next to last&quot; in the sense that it is being used on the air. the ultimate is the last, as in the greatest. as in: Pulp Fiction is the ultimate movie...they should just stop making films, its the last one we need.&quot; in that sense, penultimate means next to last, the second best. </p><p>just sort of a nit-picky thing. im sure ill get railed for it.&nbsp;</p><p>&nbsp;</p>

Ultimate does mean final, but it can also be used to describe an extreme.&nbsp; It can mean the best or the worst, so I don't see a problem with how its used on the show.&nbsp; And who really cares how its being used as long as it is done in a way that gives ESD a hard time.<br />

<p>right...penultimate does mean second to last in the context of ultimate meaning the last.</p><p>one would not say penultimate band to listen to while getting high = the second to last one you would listen to, but rather, the very next one to the ultimate. </p><p>penultimate chapter and comic works because they are not being defined as either a positive or a negative. but the word penultimate is, primarily, a positive as is the word ultimate. even if i were to say east side dave is the ultimate shit-ass jv baseball player, it would still be positive...he would be the best at being the worst.&nbsp;</p>
