I remember when Jeff was admin. He always said we were family. There's been a lot of anger lately.

I still think we are family. There are many members who I love. Who's in with me? Let's be family forever.

I'm too new to consider myself part of the family, but I like most of the people here. I don't think there's as much hate as it seems sometimes. When a few people are fighting, it often looks like a lot of people are fighting. Also, since R&F started on XM, there has been a huge increase in new members. This is the only message board I ever use, and I love it here.

I think there is a core of folks that do genuinely like each other and have built rapport and relationships. And I'm not trying to exclude anyone, acceptance is part of the deal, meaning if you show up and make nice, it will be reciprocated. ALL ARE WEEYLCOME! ALL ARE WEEYLCOME!

I often find myself telling people at work (and even at home) about conversations on ronfez.net. I can mention board names to my son, and he knows who I'm talking about. Some people think that's weird, but it's really no different than the experiences you have with people in everyday life. I'm happy to be part of the "family".

By the way... is this the kind of "family" that I can count on to have people "rubbed out" for me? I don't have anyone in mind. It would just be good to know.

Personally I think the friendly aspect of this board started to leave when Ron and Fez were taken off the air at WNEW. I'm not pointing fingers or making any inferences to anyone at all on this, though I did notice that gradually after that that we had an good portion of people who were regulars here leave the board. There were also some incidents of drama which I won't mention and shouldn't be brought up but that kind've started the trend of negativity. I think that as time went by as well that a different element came on the board and I don't mean DC folks or any particular groups, but rather some folks who weren't as friendly, perhaps they just weren't here before so they don't know what it was like.

Whatever the case though, the attitude trend changed on the board. Also when Ron and Fez moved to XM there was an attitude shift as well. Again nothing wrong with that because it would naturally happen, though there was an attitude that came along with it. Which is precisely why I made the thread I did in the confessional about not liking these times when O&A moved back to FM radio. My reason is that I saw another wave of negativity and fighting about to occur and things about to get uncomfortable around here which is what we now have.

This negativity is also why I've been concerned over peoples attitudes towards East Side Dave on the show. I can understand people being critical of him or things he may say on the show or if they find him funny, whatever. However the pure hatred that seems to have spilled out of people who have posted on this board since he has been on the show is unreal. It bothered me that people were making ESD death threads and suicide threads and fake board names. After all East Side is a fellow board member from way back and is part of our "family". I can understand there being a fine line between a show character and a board member though those kind of threads and posts etc towards someone who is a part of this board should not in my opinion be allowed. I think by allowing it that it in some ways puts out a message that it's open season on others and helps to foster the kind of thing that is going on with the board of late.

I seriously do hope things return to a family kind of atmosphere because I genuinely felt it at one point and used to look forward to hopping on the board and reading posts, etc.

Even though I lurked around here for a while before I started posting, I felt the closeness that this board has. I can tell you that I would never had made plans to go to a bar night for to meet up with message board members from any other site. Hell I dont even go to other sites to post anymore. I felt welcomed here from my first post, even after some of my lame, stupid and non-funny posts. I also have felt the comforting emails I recieved asking about my grandmothers health. My chick laughs at me a little bit when I tell her about something someone on the board says and I use their board name. But she gets it, which is cool.

Thanks for the thread. It is good to flush out someone of the negativity around here lately.

i never have and probably never will get into the whole "family" feeling of the board. i come here to entertain myself for an hour or so a day. don't get me wrong, i like the board and have no problems with just about everyone that posts here. but i would never go to a bar night or anything like that. i'm not looking for friends when i come here. sometimes i find it strange that so many here know each other that personally...which i think after a while can lead to the drama and the less friendly posting after some time. like you guys i enjoy the radio show and like to see what others are saying about it. the other forums just make it that much better. but thats all i'm looking to get from the board.

Ronfez.net is home for me. I love it here and I care about the people here though
I've never met one in person. When I have a problem, the first thing I think of is
making a thread and seeing what my "family" thinks. Thanks to the board

Then just as everone was comfortable with the DC deal, they moved again.

Maybe if they can settle down at one place for awhile things will be more normal here too.

I think it's also the nature of the beast. When the show was on WNEW, the fanbase (for the most part) was centralized in the DC area. Lots of board members were able to meet each other at events and get to know each other. When people meet each other and hang out, it tends to remove the animosity towards others that people feel they can express when anonymous. Also, you find out sometimes that people who come off kind of aggressive on the board are actually pretty cool in real life, so you know where they are coming from and don't really take as much offense if the same posts came from an anonymous person. Now, the show is national. It's very cool to see people from all over the country join the board and start loving the Ron & Fez Show, and I like a whole lot of the new folks that the XM era has brought on board, but obviously it's been at some cost to the localized intimacy of before.

Who is to say that if the show had remained at WNEW for all of these years that the board would be in any different way it is now. Hell - I've lurked about long enough to remember when Wackbag was a tiny nothing of a side alternative to oa.com,and now look at it - like it or hate it, it's huge and doesn't resemble those humble beginnings at all. Maybe all of the moving around has helped rf.net hold on tighter to it's identity - try to remain a constant in the inconsistent world of following a radio show. Judging by the Christmas appearance alone, the fans have not missed a step in supporting the show and having fun.

Yes we are all still family here. Now it is becoming an extended family. First it was just NY/NJ/CT. Then we through DC/ VA/MD into the mix (and some GREAT members came out of that) Now we are nationwide. Members from all over the place. The new ones that contribute regularly have been great. Adding some cool stuff to the board.

I also still love trying to help when a member is reaching out. That makes it feel alot like family. And Fuzzy, when I once in a while get those early morning PM's waiting for me, it really brightens my day! (Petrina is THE BEST!!
I remember when Jeff was admin. He always said we were family. There's been a lot of anger lately.

Perhaps, and this is not me casting a stone at Jeff but rather an observation now that I think of it, perhaps when Jeff ran the board he inadvertantly fell into being the target for people to hate. With Jeff no longer running the board there isn't someone to go after really so perhaps the anger goes outward among the board, I don't know..just a thought. Personally I like Jeff, I may have had an issue here or there but overall he wasn't a bad guy and I appreciate what he did with this place.

My two cents on the whole thing:

Due to this messageboard, I have a lot of "real life" friends because of it and people I know are there for me when I need it ((and who I have called on when dealing with certain problems and headaches in my life)). But at the same time, there are a lot of people on here that I wouldn't consider my friend or family, most likely due to stupid misunderstandings or petty bullshit that I often brought upon myself when I was 16- and 17- years old.

I shall continue this rambling once I'm done with class... but I guess... I do value a lot more people on this messageboard than I do from my actual extended family ((most of whom do not even know me, but just hate me because of who my parents are, etc.)). I think that counts for something huge.
