A friend of mine was taking a cab in NYC last night, and forgot to tell the driver to open the trunk when he got it. Sure enough, a bus was coming and the driver took off. He also doesn't know the cabbie's name, number or even the service.

Aside from filing a report with the TL&C and the various Police precincts, is there anything else he could be doing? Did this ever happen to anyone and what was the outcome?

This obviously doesn't help your friend, but my wife has made a habit of asking for a receipt every time she takes a cab, whether she needs it or not (I'm not so good about this). The reason for this is that if you do leave something in a cab, you have the cab number on the receipt and can easily identify which cab has yoir stuff. This came in handy when we left our camera in the back of a cab and were able to identify exactly which cab had it (unfortunately, either the driver or one of the passengers walked off with the camera, so we never did get it back).

Yeah, he's probably going to have to chalk this up to a hard lesson learned. I feel bad for him though.

I had this amazing leather jacket that I left in the back of a cab when I returned from my honeymoon. Exhausted from the flight, I never checked that I had it with me.

Never saw the fucking thing again. Pisses me off to this day.

I did this after a R&F event once. Lost a brand new cell phone and my wallet with my license and credit cards. They fell out of my purse. Luckily I had some cash on me. Never got any of it back I did the same thing, called the TL&C and didn't get anything back.

My sister got her wallet returned to her by a cabbie who found her license and somehow got her phone #.

Few years ago I went to a friends bday gathering in the city at a bar. I was sorta sick but I went anyway. Had like 3-4 beers, was sorta drowsy from the cold medicine. Left early, got in a cab, got back to my house, paid the cab driver. Out of the corner of my eye I thought I saw paper on the seat of the cab, but I didn't think nothing of it. Woke up next day more clear headed....turns out I dropped $200 in the cab.

Im still extremely bitter to this day.

One drunkin night my cell slipped out of my pocket in a cab... The driver actually called my Mom (probally looking for some trim) and long story short I got the phone back...
