I used to wait tables, so I am a good 25-30%.

And even if I am getting a bagel and juice at a diner, tip has to be at least $5.

I toe the ADF line at a base of 20% for standard service and dollar per drink at the bar.

I'll easily go over the top for better sevice, of course, but I will also go the other way on bad service as well. Recently I was having brunch with a friend. We both ordered omelettes. It took, seriously, 25 minutes for her omelette to come out, and it was the wrong one. When she told the waitress that it wasn't what she ordered, the waitress was surly and said, "Well, it'll be a while." She wasn't lying either. Another 15 minutes passes, with the waitress avoiding us, not refilling the coffee etc, and her omelette finally comes out and it's undercooked, like not edible undercookd. At this point, this was going on 45 minutes and I had finished eating, so we told the waitress about the runny omelette and that it wasn't going to be eaten and asked her to just bring us the check so we could get out of there. When she brought it over, she had charged us for my friend's omelette. Then, gave us an attitude about taking it off the bill. The manager who had been standing nearby for some time and had heard us talkign about the situation, I guess, came over and immediately removed the bad omelette. The upshot of this long, unbelievably pointless story is that I wasn't going to leave a tip. I felt justified in that, I think anyone would. My friend wanted to not only to leave a tip, but against the full amount of the 2 omelettes! This I could not allow. So we compromised and left a tip on my breakfast and some coffee, although I didn't like it.

20% on average. Less if the service sucks, more if the service is exceptional or I'm a regular.

$1 a drink on average, but again, if the server is exceptional or I'm a regular more. Sometimes I'll tip big on that first drink so I'll get better attention later on. And if I buy the bartender a shot, I will tip on everything except the shot I bought the bartender. The shot is a part of the tip, not a replacement for.

10% if they suck. Normally 20% rounded up to the next buck or two.

At my local spot I tip 50%. They usually hook me up with appetizer and dessert. It sucks when I bring people. They will get all sorts of free shit, but they don't think to tip it out. I end up tipping my ass off at those times.

ive worked 4 jobs that i made money on tips, so i tend to tip alot. Just borderline service will usually get someone 20% and even with horrible service i still leave some tip. On pizza and delivery shit, anything from like 15-20 i tip 4 or 5 and if i ever order anything over 30 bucks i usually give the guy at least a 10
At least 20%, unless the service sucks. I was a waitress way back in the day.

At least 20% at restaurants. One dollar per beer. More for mixed drinks, and lots more as the buybacks roll out.

Especially when I get Girl-Drink Drunk. The heavy tip helps cover my shame...(sigh)

Delivering pizza, I once had a guy say, "Here's 2 bucks for you. I figure I should tip, but hey... it's not like you're a waitress."

What a prick.

I tip at least 20% in a restaurant, at least 5 for delivery, and a buck per drink (unless I'm buying super complicated drinks, then more) at the bar. I tip 6 bucks on a 14 dollar Hair Cuttery visit. I give the dog groomer 5 bucks and they act like I'm a king. I don't think they get tipped often, but the way I see it, their job is at least as difficult as a hair stylist.

When the guy at the shop inspects my car, I send him a pizza.

you defenitely want to tip if youre visiting ireland. but i have had barmen refuse tips in wee old rural bars. more acceptable to say "have one for yourself" every few drinks and theyll usually take a £ or 2 from your change. in touristy places theyre quite happy to take tips too.

for taxis, deliverys etc we usually just round it up to the nearest pound. actually the dude delivering heating oil to the house refused a £5 ($7.50) tip last week. older people dont really like it i suppose.

No One putsin time why is it always %

Always at least 20% but I'd never really go crazy and do anything like 30% and I waited/bussed for 10 years in highschool/college.

The only change to that would be if I was given a lot of stuff free, say pitchers of beer and the like, in which case I'd figure a portion of the freebies into the tip.

I usually only drink beer at a bar so I tip every second beer and then at the end of the night when I'm closing out I'll throw more if I got some buybacks.

The guys that handling tipping the best are those dudes at McSoreley's.

If you buy a round that comes to 15 bucks and hand them a 20, especially the older guy ( Tom I think ) , dont expect the 5 back because he keeps it.

Tip everybody, just a few bucks goes a long way. I get looks like I'm nuts when I make my trips up to CA. In PA / NJ (only other places I really know) I tip the Gas Attendents, Barbers, Mailman at Xmas (of course, He's a walker), UPS and Fedex guy also at Xmas (home business), tip my car mechanic.

Meal under 30$ or something tip like 30% or so, over that then you gotta get a little more realistic, not rich here.

have to admit i think the jump from 15% to 20% is a little steep. what happened to 17 and 18%?

if i get excellent service i'll give more than 20% but for good service i'm somewhere inbetween 15 and 20.

Worked 2 xmas's Postal carrier(PTF(Part Time Flexible... heh 60 hours a week)), I hit a diff route everyday out of the 15 in office with the regulars. Those guys remembered each and every customer that showed a little love.
