yesterday sirius posted a loss more than double that of their first quarter (thanks to a certain hoohoo)...dunno if xm's drop is an industry-related thing or what

I heard this morning that they lost more money in the first 1/4 of this year than all off last year. Sirius was even worse.

you know I thought I was an ass for following the price every few hours or a few times a day. I dont own any stock in the company, nor would I ever. I do the same thing with WWE and a few other companies, again i do own stock in them.

As to your question, i could only assume that its numbers are not as high as they would like. or sirius getting exposure due to HOO-HOO. Or maybe even a backlash to the O&A on Free-Fm. I only say that because the price has gone done daily since the announcement was made.

It keeps getting worse. XM didn't lock up music rights either. There's some legislation from Dianne Feinstein that would make XM pay royalties for recording on thier myfis and similar devices. It doesn't make sense, but Sirius was able to cut a deal.

from rodans article:

The devices that let XM subscribers store up to 50 hours of programming
are no different from taped radio recordings made by listeners, he
added.
_______

huh, go figure. mine only stores five hours, must be defective. it helps when they get the facts right

(fuck the washington times, its all about the post)

I was reading google news and i saw something kinda funny:

one article says: This morning, Sirius Satellite Radio (Nasdaq: SIRI) announced strong
first quarter 2006 results which included record market share of
satellite radio net subscriber additions. The company ended the quarter
with 4.07 million subscribers, reflecting an addition of 761,187
subscribers, or a 149% increase in additions compared to a year ago.
For the second consecutive quarter, Sirius gained more subscribers than
its major competitor XM Satellite Radio

from http://www.antandsons.com/blogger.html

ok 761,187 should be more then XM's additions.

now from Forbes

Operating cash flow loss of $48.9 million was better than the analyst's
$60.5 million forecast. But gross subscriber additions of 998,000 were
less than the analyst's projected 1.1 million.

so what the fuck? XM added over 200,000 more people, but sirius added more, how does that work?

I can't help but think that both companies would be doing much better if the signal was more reliable. I know several people who have cancelled subscriptions for both companies because they couldnt get a signal either in work or at their home. I think if they don't straighten that shit out both stocks will continue to fall.

Here are some numbers and answers as to why it's tanking. I do not see either of these companies folding per say. However, I would speculate a strong fiscal diet would be in order for long term viabilty of either entity. Panero and company's lead over Sirius is dwindling. This is the last year for NASCAR on XM and Sirius will pony-up huge for these rights. It is a done deal. Not that it's that important to some, it just a huge outlay. When I owned stock in XM it was 33 and change just last summer. IMHO..From an investment standpoint, it is hard for a stock to upswing while showing loss, quarter after quarter. Anyway I am only posting here because I lost owning both companies for awhile.

http://www.marketwatch.com/News/Story/Story.aspx?siteid=myyahoo&guid=%7B2225A80B%2D0B93% 2D42A2%2D8EA9%2D6C558C82F658%7D

http://www.thestreet.com/_yahoo/comment/dumbest/10283736_4.html

I think it's just growing pains. Both companies have some very savvy marketing and advertising firms behind them, and they're making some solid partnerships throughout the entertainment industry. Businesses across the board are taking a hit. I guess it has a lot to do with gas costs...people spending less time in the car listening to less radio...but who knows? I doubt it's any cause for alarm. Growing pains and all.
