Just how does one go about changing their political party? I've always wondered this
and can never find information on how to do it. I have seriously thought about doing this
for quite some time now though I don't know how. Basically I'm disgusted by the whole political machine and both major parties in general.

I always thought it was just a matter of going to the polls on election day and voting for another party.

If you have gone to city hall (or whatever) and registered as a democrat or republican, that just restricts which primary election you can vote in. It certainly doesn't mean you can't vote for the other candidate (or a 3rd party) if you want to.

Basically all registering for one party or the other entitles you to do is vote in the primaries. If you're sick of politics, why bother? You're always free to vote for whoever you want.

If you want to change to independent or another party, all you have to do is fill out a form at your local voter registration office. The laws differ from state to state, but you generally have to do it at least 1 or 2 months before an election.

Well, if you live in NYC you have to register as a Democrat whether you like it or not. The Republicans dont even bother to field candidates in most of the primaries. But even the primaries are so locked up by the unions and interest groups that even then your vote doesnt have much of a chance of making much of a difference there either.

Enter voting booth.

Close curtain

Vote for, or write in whoever the fuck you want!

Cast ballot.
