<p>I'm relatively new to allergies. I didn't get them til I hit 30. The first symptom is my throat is on fire. That happened for a few years. I didn't have that this year. Instead my eyeballs are on fire and dry including the surrounding tissue of my eye.</p><p>Anyone with experience with this? It's killing me. I won't go to the doctor if it's just an allergy but I will go if it's SARS of the eyes.</p>

<p>I don't get allergies nearly as much as I used to, but I have to tell you... when you have them bad enough, it can be worse than the flu. I could never handle most of the meds, because they either make you jittery or knock you out.</p><p>Get yourself some Loratadine (I can't remember the brand name, but it's the stuff that stopped being prescription only a few years ago). It's expensive, but it works and has no side effects.</p><p>Good luck. I feel for ya!</p>

Go to the doc, Fuzzy. They'll give you perscription allergy stuff that these days has
none of the old side effects. Will clear you right up.

alice,
i've suffered from allergies since i hit puberty. i get the dry itchy eyes, the
alternating stuffy-runny nose, sneezing, nasal drip = sore throat. i suggest going
to the dr. if your allergies get bad enough, they could develop into a sinus infection
on top of it. the only rx that i've tried that works for me without side effects or
having to take it frequently is allergra d. i take it once a day and i'm good. hope
you feel better.

<p>Claritin can be purchased over the counter now and seems to work for generic pollen related allergies and the sort.</p>

I can relate. The nice thing about living in Manhattan is that, despite living somewhat close to Central Park, I haven't had to deal with seasonal allergies in years. Of course, I spent 3 days in Maryland last week and had burning eyes, sneezing, congestion and a cough. Back in NY, I'm still suffering from some of these symptoms. By Monday, I'll likely have cleaned out my system enough that it won't be a problem. Of course, by then I'll be back in Maryland and likely starting the cycle all over again.
Having spent the last year in the desert, it's hitting me hard this year: especially the itchy eyes. Of course, all that rubbing has led to my first stye!

<p>I've always had slight allergies, but they've gotten really bad the past few years. This year is definitely the worst, my eyes and throat are affected the most. Get some zyrtec or claritin, it helps.</p><p>I got allergy tested and I'm severely allergic to trees and ragweed. My car is coated in pollen every day when I leave work. Oh, and I'm allergic to the kitties as well, and I've been waking up to them sleeping next to my face. The doc can prescribe the good shit, I suggest getting a script.</p>

<p>I think I'm doing well with the pollen this year. But a few days ago I went out to my car and it seemed the whole fucking world was coated in yellow, sticky pollen.</p><p>Gay.</p>

no allergies that i know of but every once in a while i'll be doing something in the yard and suddenly get overwhelmed for a few minutes with flem/mucus in my nostrils and mouth. i assume some airborne substance brought it on but i can never figure out what it was....

<p>Yeah, I didn't start getting allergies until my thirties too. I haven't had too much luck with over the counter meds, and since mine are relatelively short lived (about one or two weeks out of the year where I'm miserable from it) I just kind of ride it out and try out different drugs. It's horrible, though.</p>
I've had allergies my entire life and am allergic to nearly everything, except maybe a lot of food. Scripts are the way to go.

I used to get bad allergies from pollen, my whole life. For some reason, about 3 years ago, they just stopped. No more allergies<br />

I have bad allergies. at least 2-3 times a year my eyes will swell up, puffy and beyond red and get really icky looking. I have 3 cats now and so far this season no allergy problems.

I haven't had a major allergy attack in years, but for the last 2-3 weeks, my allergies have been going nuts. My eyes are dried out, nose is dried out, finally stopped sneezing badly this week. I'll be glad when this is all over.<br />

<p>My allergies seem to be the worst this year. My eyes get so red and hot that I need to put ice on them to cool them off. My nose is red and almost raw from the constant wiping from sneezing. </p><p> </p>
<p>I've never had an allergic reaction to anything in my life, not even poison ivy. Somehow I've developed some sort of rash (or hives) all across my rib cage and I have absolutely no idea why. Huge red itchy welts, but only on my left side. I haven't changed laundry detergents or soaps and I haven't eaten anything out of the ordinary. </p><p>What the hell causes this? </p>

You can break out in hives like that purely from stress. It's happened to me before, big giant welts all over my body.

To be honest, though, I really don't think I'm under any undue stress lately. </p><p>I guess it's one of those mysteries, but these things are driving me crazy with the itching! The hydrocortisone cream is pretty much worthless. </p>

This results in large red welts. Keep an eye on them to see if they turn to blisters. If they don't go away in a few days, you may want to consider seeing a dermatologist.</p>
