People seem to have their own individual ideas of right and wrong, and I'm just wondering what shapes your ethics. Is it an established religion (Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Islam, etc.) or something that's evolved over the years?

Mine evolved I think. As early as I can remember, it'd go like this :

I'd do something, I'd feel like shit afterwords whether I was taught it was wrong or not, I wouldn't do that thing again (except for cheating. that one took me a few tries)

at times i see GOD and the Devil as two grouchy old men sitting in the park playing chess. maybe i seen too many movies, but it isnt that i beleive that its just i think its funny. i do believe in God and heaven and hell and i believe in purgatory. where you can go to atone for your sins (or be judged for them on the spot) before going to heaven or hell. to me heaven looks like the movie WHAT DREAMS MAY COME. give it a watch, it will make you wonder.

i dont believe in any religion. religion and church to me is man made. their interpertaion of Gods word. I just do what i think is right. i try to give to charity, or to the homeless. i try not to be a bad person. i just try to treat people how i want to be treated. i keep my word, i am dependable, i am honorable, i am proud.

right now this is making me think about what i will teach my kids when/if i have them.

I went to Catholic elementary school and high school, but rejected organized religion in general somewhere around my sophomore or junior year. I'm sure some of the lessons drilled into my head all those years have stuck with me, but I've always felt that deep down every human being just knows what is right and wrong.

I've always had a deep interest in spirituality and have studied many different philosophies, particularly the Eastern schools of thought, such as Taoism, Buddhism, and Zen. I suppose you just wind up picking and choosing the things that reiterate what you already believe, but reading other schools of thought really helps you think on a different level.

I like to think I'm a moral person even though I wouldn't call myself religious or judgmental in any way.

Which recently did a show analyzing "What is morality" and where it comes from, in nature and in humans. Facinating show, and if anyone's interested, look over their other shows too. Every time I've listened to that show I got locked to my radio and was amazed at the things I learned.

My parents didn't practice any religion at all, but I think my mom's Catholic
background had a lot to do with the morals I grew up with. I added in some values
of my own, like being a vegetarian, and I think I'm a pretty moral person --
especially compared to "kids these days."
