View Full Version : Rey Mysterio to WWF?

This is from November's 2001 issue of WWF Magazine, it has this short:

My top Mexican source, E INFORMERO, reports the following: Me dicen fuertes que un luchador, Misterio pronto puede aparecer para ayudar la victria de ESSA RIOS un campeonato. Translation: A Mysterious luchador will soon appear and hep Essa Rios win a championship.

Any truth to that rumor or i it another WWF ploy to make us think, Rey Rey is joining the crowded roster of WWFE?

Would Rey Mysterio, Jr. help Essa Rios win the Lightheavyweight or Cruiserweight Title or screw him over? Well, thinking on those lines, whenever Eddy reurns could we see the return of the L.W.O. with Guerrero as leader, with Chavo and Pepe [LMAO], Rey, Rios. That would help Chavo to get in the spotlight in the WWF.

What yall thinkin?

Yadda Yadda Yadda!

While I dread another LWO angle, I'd love to see Rey Misterio Jr. in the WWF. I mean, if you look at the fed now, it would seem as if the only lightheavyweights (by that I mean individuals actually competing for the title) are Kidman and X-Pac. With maybe Tajiri and Spike occasionally getting shots at the gold.

They definitely need to sign him by the time that WCW gets its own show. I need my lucha libre action!!!

All good points, Se7en. I really didn't mind the LWO angle but if it includes the wrestlers I aforementioned it would be solid.

The Crusierweight Division is indeed diluted: Kidman, X-Pac, Chavo, Spike, Tajiri, no Essa Rios, or Kaientai. Pretty sad. They should also bring in Shannon Moore, Evan Karagias, Kid Kash, Yun Yang, Kaz Hayashi, Nova, Jason Jett aka EZ Money, Psychosis and Juventud to make it at least an active, competitive and halfway decent division.

I'd love to see Rey in the WWF, but for some reason fans in the WWF don't seem to pop for the light heavyweights the way they did in WCW.

The problem with cruiserweights in the WWF is they will never be taken seriously by the bookers, and thus, never be taken seriously by the fans. Part of the reason why the cruiser division in WCW was so successful was that they were kept seperate from the heavyweights for the most part, and given enough TV time to develop storylines and have fairly long matches. In the WWF now, smaller guys are just treated as jobbers for the heavyweights, so why should the fans care about them? The only time the WWF had anything even resembling a decent push for the cruiser division was when Taka and Sasuke originally came on board. The fans marked hard for these guys, as it was something relatively new for most WWF viewers, and they put on better matches than most of the upper card. Then they gave the belt to Gillberg. Wonder why people lost interest?

It's a shame too, because there's an INSANE number of great cruisers in the indys, not to mention Japan and Mexico, and yet Billy Gunn remains on the roster...

The problem with cruiserweights is that the matches are completely unrealistic. Every move needs an assist by the other wrestler. It looks completely fake and exposes the business.

Tazz, what are you basing that on? Sure, there are some cruisers who are poor wrestlers, but for every bum like Nova or Karagias or Crash Holly, there are guys like Christopher Daniels and Kaz Hayashi and Low-Ki who can work an exciting, realistic match.

How about a hurricarana. The most over used move in a light heavyweight match. Can't do that move alone. Basically 95 percent of the moves in a Mysterio match looked fake. Same for a Jeff Hardy match. To be honest, I have always hated masked wrestlers. I was thrilled when Bischoff went on his anti mask run. Mysterio, Juventud, Psycosis, all losing their masks was great.

Well, what about heavyweight moves like the powerbomb, piledriver, or vertical suplex? All require assistance from the recipient.

As for Rey, check out his work in Mexico before he jumped to WCW. He was more of a mat-based wrestler, not quite the hurricanrana machine he would become later on. But you hate masked wrestlers, so nevermind...

Very easy. Tazz should put on a mask and become a lucha-libre wrestler. He already got the size. Oh, that's gotta hurt.

I have no respect for the wrestler Tazz since he became Tazz of the WWF and lost the edge as the unwavering, upstoppable Human Suplex Machine known as TAZ!

TAKA got injured (wrist or shoulder) on Jakked/Metal this past week. Not sure how long he's gonna be out.

They should also bring in Shannon Moore, Evan Karagias, Kid Kash, Yun Yang, Kaz Hayashi, Nova, Jason Jett aka EZ Money, Psychosis and Juventud to make it at least an active, competitive and halfway decent division.

Shannon Moore, Evan Karagias, Yun Yang, Kaz Hayashi, Jason Jett are all under WWF contract and are wrestling in OVW and HWA.

I'd love to see Rey in the WWF, but for some reason fans in the WWF don't seem to pop for the light heavyweights the way they did in WCW.

Vince likes "Big Men". If he just tried they could have a awesome LHW division.

Low-Ki who can work an exciting, realistic match.

Loki is fucking awesome. I've seen him wrestle a few times before WWF shows.
