I personally like gambit so i was upset he was not on there, yet there were people who were in the x-men for one comic that made the list, very weird. Should have made a special section for Jubilee and ranked her #113468934`6034`613478960346,062940869047-675962

She was one of the most popular X-men characters and featured prominently in a number of Claremont's stories including Days of Future Past.

Chamber can be seen as an X-Man in the Poptopia trade

Jamie Madrox - Never an X-Man. Was offerred a position, but became Moira MacTaggert's assistant instead.

Strong Guy - went from being Lila Cheney's bodyguard to a member of X-Factor

and...

okay thanks for update Jon and Eli...i just felt they picked alot of people that were not in X-men for long periods of time and did not contribute much. I understand liking Kitty and her story lines, but just seems weird to rank her so high to me, i mean come on Jean Grey is like #6 yet kitty is #3?? But also i dont like banshee and archangel being ranked at all

But because they explained that Phoenix was never Jean, yet have consistently retred the whole Phoenix storyline, I think they just devalued the character.

As for Kitty, she has long been the "every person" character through which Claremont and now Whedon has told the X-Men stories. For having a somewhat limited power compared to others, she has played a vital part in a number of varied stories, and that's because readers could relate to her better than many of the other characters.

Plus, her relationship with Wolverine brought out that character even more than before, such that Marvel copied it at least twice by creating a similar relationship between Wolvie and Jubilee, and by the relationsihip between Sabretooth and Blink in AoA. Plus, when has Jean Grey ever said anything as memorable as "Professor X is a Jerk!" I think after that, they realized who great it was, and actually made Professor X more of a jerk.

There were several lame X-characters created in the late '80's-early '90s who became surprisingly hugely popular - Gambit, Cable and Deadpool. Luckily for Cable and Deadpool, Marvel was able to make those characters better over time. They have never been able to make Gambit cool.

I am glad Gambit was missing, he stinks.

Also the fact your can list the top 25 X-men shows what is wrong woth the X-men, way to much going on, and way to many charectors.

Gambit was created to be a darker Longshot. Real planning in the character development there. Personally, I prefer Longshot. I liked that in this serious, angsty team, there was one guy in there who was always having fun and juxtaposed well amidst the darker members.

And I love Kitty Pryde, dunno if I agree with all the positionings, but most of the top 10 are good. And of course Archangel belongs in the top 25, as do all of the original 5.

cyclops as #1!?!?! Blasphemy. There was never anything cool about cyclops. Even his costume sucked until after X-Factor.

While I would have put Cyclops as #4 or #5, i wouldn't claim Blasphemy. he was the stright man of the group that allowed everyone else to see cooler.
