Here's my old ride:

'95 Ford Escort. I had one before it that went to about 210,000 miles. This one is at 148,000 and has a lot of problems. Radiator leaks at the top, suspension is shot, needs a new ignition switch which is part of the steering column which means you have to replace it, no A/C, shit heat and worst of all it's been overdue for inspection since December. If you'll notice I took the sticker out of the window, it depressed me. So with all that in mind, we move on to...

Meet the new Moe-bile. A 2005 Subaru Forester. This thing has 5100 miles on it and is fucking awesome. I can't get credit and needed a car. My grandmother just bought this last year and wanted something smaller. So she and I went to get her a 2006 Toyota Corolla last night. How it works is I basically pay her car payment for her as payment on this car. Maybe one day I'll be a grown up and have my own credit, but until that day, I needed help and this worked out very well.

So after a few hours of Insurance stuff, DMV stuff and driving the car is now mine!!! Title and registration in my name, my own new policy and a fine new car.

Giving the old car to Jenn in my band so she can use it until it's done out in PA. Don't want that thing sitting around too long.

So I'm extremely happy tonight. I have an almost new car and no longer have to drive in fear of breaking down or getting popped for no inspection. My old car wasn't worth fixing but the Forester is and hopefully it'll be in good shape for year.

Congrats on the new wheels, Moe!

I feel like I could cut and paste my comments from Snoogans' and Jeff's new car threads and give a dissertation on the pros of your vehicle, but I'll just wish you the best of luck and tell you that the Forrester is a highly rated vehicle and you'll love all the room you'll have for your drums.

Best of luck with it.

Why is it that Subaru seems to be the only car company that does not tint their windows?

Every other SUV, mini SUV and minivan have deep tint in the back, and state minimum for the fronts and 'shield. Tht's just wrong!!

I'll agree that the forester and legacy should be tinted also.

Good luck with it Moe. We just drove our Baja to Mississippi from NJ and back over the last week. My wife and I were completely taken aback by how comfortable the car is, and how nice of a ride it was all the way there and back, 18 hours each way. We never would have expected this from a car this size, plus good gas mileage. The heated seats really work to loosen the muscles on the ride, apparently they're not just for winter any more.

Congratulations Moe! Nothing quite like a new(ish) ride.

I picked up my low-mileage 2002 Cavalier in 2003 after driving nothing but "beater cars" my whole life, so I know how you feel. I haven't been this excited since I bought my drum set.

But I quoted MadMatt because of the "Beater car" statement. That's what I've been driving my whole driving life. 1st was borrowing my dad's Datsun hatchback. Then I got my very own 84 Toyota Celica for a couple years until it blew up. Next was my 1st 95 Ford Escort which lasted for years, then my 2nd 95 Escort.

Now I FINALLY have something almost completely new and I can hardly believe it when I sit behind the wheel. It's just so nice.

Congrats Moe! I remember when I got my first "new" car. A couple of tips:

1. Do your best to keep the inside clean. It will pileup before you can blink.

2. Don't treat it like the racecar Escort. It dosen't have the stripe for a reason.

Well my old Escort is now in PA. I took about 2 hours today cleaning it for my bandmate Jenn who I gave it to. There was a lot of crap in there, I had no idea who fucking filthy it was. Cleaned all the windows from the inside, cleaned all the inscence ash up, cleaned a spill in my removable cup holder thing that has cemented some change to the bottom of it. Vacuumed the thing out, washed the outside and even did the old Rain-X on the front and back windsheild. Fucking car is cleaner than it's ever been.

I always feel a little sentimental when I get rid of my cars. I've been through so much with them. Cross country trips, good meals, rain, snow, sleet, arguments, dates, just driving around to think, sweating. You worry about them like a living thing when there's something wrong with it.

But I've moved on.

I still miss my 84 Celica to tell you the truth, I guess I never move on.
